distributer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My brother and I are rebuilding a 1974 cj5 with a 304cm 5.0L V8 engine. We took the distributor out and was going to replace it and once we got it in, the jeep wouldn't start.  Does anyone have any advice at what we can do as like firing order and we can get it working?

Put the engine to top dead center and reinstall the distributor with the rotor just before the number #1 cylinder or whichever one fires first on that engine. That should get it close enough to start so you can set the time.
