Sorry to be the barer of bad news but that engine is an interference engine and if belt broke while you were driving it you will most likely have major internal motor damage. The least of which is bent valves. Could also have cracked head and or pistons.

Ok finding conflicting information. Seems that engine may not have valve to piston interference but will have valve to valve interference when belt breaks. Either way they are bent. Do a compression check on all cylinders. Any showing 0 psi will have bent valves.

I have worked for chrysler for 18 years it is not an interference engine.

The PT cruiser has a non interface engine, the Pistons won't hit the valves but the valves can hit each other causing them damage, I v had 3 pt cruisers this year come to my shop with a broken timing belt, and you can visually look at the head and see how much more clearance it has compared to a interface engine, 2 engines had 2 bent valves and the other one only needed a new timing belt, you can Google and find out which engines are interface or non interface, so I gaurantee that the gentleman that said pt cruiser are interface engines is 100% wrong,

Not all Chrysler motors are non interface, so the gentleman is partially right about Chrysler motors being interface engines, but all you have to do is Google Wich motor you have yet, make and size and Chrysler has a complete list of every motor they ever built and the problem is sloved
