trouble starting and hesitation once running

Asked by hugapug3585 Oct 23, 2011 at 03:02 PM about the 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am having trouble with my PT 2004. The engine light has been going on and off occassionally now it is on constantly. The car ran fine until recently. I can not go over 30 with out it hesitating and sputtering. Also the car has been hard starting after small trips out. It seems I have to take the car out of park and put it back into park before it will start. Any ideas? thanks

the first thing to do is to scan the vehicle for the code. that will most likely tell you what the problem is or at least narrow it down

I have had a similar problem with My 2004 PT Cruiser and replaced the spark plugs and wires, this made it a lot better but I also noticed My Car (2.4l non turbo) is very sensitive to the quality of the fuel I use. Mine works great on Shell regular fuel,no hesitations and smooth accelerating with the Shell fuel at all.
