Engine problem

I was driving my 2004 chrystler pt cruiser i heard somewhat
a rattling sound i stopped the vehicle made checks and
started the vehicle and shirtly after i heard the same sound
about a mile after the vehicle shut down and the hood had
smoke i let the vehicle cool down thereafter added water
and engine oil. But still did not start what could have
happened or caused it????

Timing belt broken, perhaps? That will keep it from starting, and if the valves were contacting each other, maybe that was the noise. So sorry to hear you had that happen.
