Ran out of gas now it wont start

I ran out of gas then put gas and my check engine light is
on and it won't start

Most likely the fuel pump is burned out. The gasoline flowing through the pump cools and lubricates the pump motor. If it runs dry the fuel pump can burn out pretty quickly. Hope that helps! Jim
