2002 Ford Escape Won't Accelerate Past 60mph

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2002 Ford Escape won't accelerate past 60mph and when it does reach that speed it makes a whirring noise from under the hood. No check engine light. Transmission and other fluids look great and there is air flow from the catalytic converter to the muffler. Any suggestions?
