Try jumping the solenoid on the fender from the big stud that has the battery cable on it to the small terminal. If the starter kicks in then there is no juice going to the small terminal when you turn the key to the start position meaning something wrong down by the ignition switch, either needs to be adjusted or it is bad. Now when you jump from the big stud with the battery cable on it to the small terminal and nothing happens then that solenoid is not working and should be replaced.
