1960 ford ranchero won’t start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I’m trying to start my dad‘s 1960 Ford
ranchero after sitting for a couple of years. I
ended up replacing the battery since it had
bad cells, added some gas and went to go
and try and start it but it will not turn over and
start the engine. Suggestions?

If it won't turn over then it could be a bad starter or solenoid, battery cables, ignition switch and so on. On those older engines that have sat like that you need to do a few things before even attempting to start it. First pull all the spark plugs and a few drops of oil into each cylinder then turn the engine over by hand a few times, make sure ignition is off, while your there look at the spark plugs, if they look even slightly iffy replace them and the points and condenser. Change the engine oil and filter. This is of allowing for a good engine. Once you have it started and running, then you can change the other fluids, like coolant, gear boxes differential, brake fluid. etc. HTH
