So I have a 2008 Envoy, randomly the ignition key will not release

Asked by GuruQYB6S Nov 13, 2019 at 03:48 PM about the 2008 GMC Envoy

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So the key sticks randomly, the battery is good and everything works just fine
as for as starting and shifting etc. If we wait 5-10 mins sometimes, it will
release without doing anything. I have replaced the shift interlock switch on
the gearshift and also the ignition switch in the column but it still continues to
do hold the key hostage in the accessory position.  What the heck is next to
test or replace to end this issue?

I've experienced this. Triple check the battery connections, need to be tight. yeah yeah, I thought mine were tight also.....wasn't tight enough. Also, the ground on tranny hump on passenger side. Pull carpet back, 1 bolt. I sanded to bare metal there. This particular ground handles A LOT.
