Cabin air filter

Asked by Dale01 Dec 14, 2009 at 06:44 PM about the 2003 Ford Escape

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am about to take my 2003 Escape in for 100,000 mile service and I don't want to pay $42 to have the dealer inspect my cabin air filter.  My owner's manual doesn't state how to check it myself.  I believe it is on passenger side under dash but others have said the access in engine compartment passenger side.  I don't "see" anything in the engine compartment.  Who can help.  Thanks, Dale.

It's under the passenger side cowl. Here is a guide on how to change it http://www.wikihow.com/Install-a-Cabin-Air-Filter-in-a-2003-Ford-Escape-Xlt

Pass side under the wiper. That's were it is. I change my every 20,000 but, the book sez 12,000 If you keep the wiper in a up position, it will be easier to get into the box which holds the cabin air-filter. You have to remove those round plastic caps to get inside the box.
