It could be that the R35 passed the DOT requirements and the R34 didn't. ---- http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-c12047_ds539987

R32s, R33s, R34s are not legal except with a very few exceptions. As stated, R35s were built for US rules

I’m guessing due to th chassis type the safety regulations are not safe or its doesn’t have Thebes correct equipment for the states, that or the government don’t like the cars being faster than their muscle cars

R32s, R33s, R34s were not built to US NHTSA nor EPA regulations at the time of their manufacturing therefore they are not legal. The NHTSA has a 21 year ban on cars not built to outs regulations, which as of this month is May, 1997 and older are exempt but...; The EPA has a 25 year ban on cars not built to EPA standards, which is May of 1993, therefore the whole 25 year ban. You'll remember that '93s are the R32 models so happy hunting, have at it but stop jacking up the prices for no good reason.

r35 is sorta as fast as the r34 so why cant it be legal in the us is it becuase the streets in the us are shorter or have more stop signs?

The R35 was built in the U.S, but the R32, R33, and R34 were not. Any car that was built outside of the U.S must meet a 25 year old requirement to be imported into the country. Because Skylines became very popular since the legendary 2 fast 2 furious movie, people became obsessed with the Skyline R34. That particular car was illegally imported by some guy who was lucky enough to get away with the import, but he eventually got caught and was forced to give it up or pay a large fine. He ended up giving it away to the government and they allowed the filming crew to use it. I'm not entirely sure how they managed to use the car, but I'm sure they made some kind of agreement and added some features to make it legal for U.S roads
