on my 1976 datsun 280z after driving it and shutting it off for more than 10 min. it acts like it is flooded and backfires for about a minute then runs normal,

Answering my own question here. I finally figured this out. It was a combination of things. Cold start valve faulty connector and air regulator valve not functioning. I replaced the connector on the cold start valve and installed a rebuilt air regulator. It is doing great now.
