what is the most a rebuild should cost?

I have a mechanic that said it would cost $1,200.00 to rebuild my transmission and when
he took it apart he said its going to cost an additional $1,200.00 to finnish the job. That
doesn't seem right to me!!!

The transmission repair business is full of rip off scams. First and most importantly check out their reputation from people who should know. In my area I deal with ONE trans guy. He is one of the best and he stands behind his work. He has actually made cheap repairs instead of the usual " oh we dropped it and checked it out ,needs a complete rebuild".
