Could be thermostat sticking closed, bad radiator cap, radiator hoses collapsing, low on coolant, blown head gasket or fan not operating properly. When does it overheat? While at highway speeds, only when idling or all the time?

Double check your hoses to see if they are collapsing. Check coolant level. (Did you properly bleed all the air out of the system) And make sure the radiator cap is in good condition, proper psi and sealing properly.

dandyoun has it covered well, but if I may: it has V-Belts, right? Not serpentine (1976) is the belt for the water pump ok? Reasonably tight?

If all the above checked out I would check for a blown head gasket.
