2021 Honda Odyssey Reviews Summary

When you’re raising kids, the last thing your life needs is added complication. The modern minivan is designed to eliminate snags, simplify your existence, and reduce friction in the daily grind. Whether you wish to save money on gas, carry maximum cargo, or own a vehicle that is ridiculously easy to load (whether we’re talking passengers or merchandise), a minivan makes good sense. And the freshened 2021 Honda Odyssey is one of our favourites, for now.

2022 Lincoln Nautilus Reviews Summary

The 2022 Lincoln Nautilus is a five-passenger crossover SUV based on the same platform, and using the same powertrains, as the Ford Edge. However, the Nautilus gets the full Lincoln design treatment, from its upscale exterior to its mid-century modern interior. Though the Nautilus is getting old (it was last redesigned for the 2016 model year as the Lincoln MKX), a continuous program of improvement means it is aging gracefully.

Look and feel

2021 Honda Odyssey

9/10

2022 Lincoln Nautilus

8/10

The 2021 Honda Odyssey presented a familiar yet refreshed appearance, with updates to the grille and front bumper, and standard LED headlights across all trims. The addition of a gloss black spear with a chrome insert at the rear and a new 19-inch wheel design for the Touring trim modernized its look. The interior was enhanced with perforated leather upholstery, contrast stitching, and ambient lighting, giving it a more upscale feel. The Odyssey's design tweaks aimed to reduce brightwork, making it a more sophisticated choice for minivan buyers.

In contrast, the 2022 Lincoln Nautilus was an attractive SUV with a balanced and detailed design that added character without being overly flashy. The Lincoln Embrace lighting sequence welcomed drivers at night, and the interior offered premium leather upholstery in various colours. Despite its luxurious feel, some elements like the centre console design and chrome-plated plastic pieces appeared less refined. The Nautilus Reserve model, the only one available in Canada, came with a starting price of $59,800, excluding destination charges.

Performance

2021 Honda Odyssey

8/10

2022 Lincoln Nautilus

8/10

The 2021 Honda Odyssey was powered by a 3.5-litre V6 engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, delivering 280 horsepower to the front wheels. It offered driving modes such as Normal, Sport, Eco, and Snow, along with paddle shifters. The V6 engine featured variable cylinder management for improved fuel efficiency, with a combined consumption rating of 10.6 L/100 km. However, the lack of all-wheel drive was a disadvantage in snowy Canadian conditions. The Odyssey's ride and handling were enjoyable, with well-weighted steering and firm yet comfortable suspension. The brakes, though improved, showed signs of fade under heavy use.

The 2022 Lincoln Nautilus came standard with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. An optional twin-turbocharged 2.7-litre V6 engine offered 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. The Nautilus featured Comfort, Normal, and Sport driving modes, with adaptive suspension adjustments. It excelled in long-distance comfort, averaging 9.4 L/100 km over 1,400 kilometres. The twin-turbo V6 provided impressive performance, especially in Sport mode, though the steering lacked engagement.

Form and function

2021 Honda Odyssey

7/10

2022 Lincoln Nautilus

7/10

Inside the 2021 Honda Odyssey, drivers found legible instrumentation, logical controls, and ample storage. The 12-way power-adjustable driver's seat was comfortable, with heated front seats and mirrors standard in Canada. The Magic Slide second-row seat layout offered versatile seating configurations, while the third-row seats accommodated both children and adults comfortably. Cargo space was generous, with 929 litres behind the third row and up to 3,984 litres with seats folded. However, removing the second-row seats for maximum cargo space was cumbersome.

The 2022 Lincoln Nautilus featured a luxurious interior with leather upholstery, ambient lighting, and a quiet cabin. The optional 22-way power front seats with massage functions provided exceptional comfort. Rear passengers enjoyed heated seats and air conditioning vents, though legroom was limited for a midsize SUV. Storage space was adequate, with a hands-free power liftgate revealing 1,055 litres of cargo space behind the rear seat and 1,948 litres with seats folded. The interior design, while high-quality, had some less refined elements.

Technology

2021 Honda Odyssey

7/10

2022 Lincoln Nautilus

8/10

The 2021 Honda Odyssey was equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth. Higher trims added navigation, a CabinWatch interior camera, and a CabinTalk PA system. The Touring trim offered an 11-speaker premium audio system and a Wi-Fi hotspot. However, the lack of a tuning knob and subpar voice recognition were drawbacks. The rear-seat entertainment system included a 10.2-inch screen and streaming apps, though it lacked a touchscreen interface.

The 2022 Lincoln Nautilus boasted a 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Sync 4 software, offering over-the-air updates, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 19-speaker Revel audio system. The system's user interface was intuitive, with physical stereo and climate controls. The natural voice recognition worked well, and the Phone as a Key feature allowed smartphone-based access. The technology suite was comprehensive and user-friendly.

Safety

2021 Honda Odyssey

9/10

2022 Lincoln Nautilus

8/10

The 2021 Honda Odyssey featured the Honda Sensing suite of advanced driving assistance systems, now standard across all trims. It included adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, pedestrian braking, and road-sign recognition. The Odyssey earned top safety ratings from the IIHS and NHTSA, with the exception of a four-star rollover resistance rating. The ADAS systems were effective but could be smoother in operation.

The 2022 Lincoln Nautilus came with the Lincoln Co-Pilot360 1.0 suite, including forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring. The Black Label trim added Co-Pilot360 1.0 Plus, with adaptive cruise control and a surround-view camera. The Nautilus received a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA and was a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS. The safety features were effective and user-friendly.
