The Lexus RX has a knack for trendsetting. First, it launched the car-like crossover era in 1999, and then it became the first luxury hybrid SUV when the Lexus RX 400h was introduced for the 2006 model year. For 2026, the Lexus RX now has both hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions. People specifically looking for a hybrid or PHEV will likely cross-shop the RX with the BMW X5 xDrive50e, the Porsche Cayenne Hybrid, the Volvo XC90 PHEV, and the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450e.
For 2026, the RX 350h is available in base Premium format or with four packages: F Sport Design, Luxury, Ultra Luxury, and Executive. The more powerful RX 500h defaults to F Sport Performance 2 guise but can also be ordered with F Sport Performance 3 or F Sport Black Line packages. The RX PHEV has just two forms: RX 450h+ Ultra Premium or Executive.

What’s New for the 2026 Lexus RX Hybrid
The Lexus RX Hybrid and RX Plug-in Hybrid are part of the RX’s fifth generation, which was introduced for 2023. It has received only minor updates each year since its redesign, and the 2026 RX Hybrid and PHEV are essentially carryover models. Wireless phone charging is now standard across all models.
Design
When it was redesigned in 2023, the Lexus RX ushered in a new grille design that better weaves the hood into the nose, and it introduced a new “spindle” body design with a low centre of gravity and athletic lines. The RX 450h+ PHEV has standard 18-inch wheels, while 19-inch wheels are standard for the RX 350h. 21-inch wheels are standard on the RX 500h and available on other versions. The RX 500h F Sport Black Line appearance package includes black exterior accents, 21-inch split-five-spoke wheels with a black finish, and orange brake calipers, while the interior gets black accents and grey stitching throughout.
Powertrain
The 2026 Lexus RX Hybrid and PHEV have three different powertrain options, all of which come standard with all-wheel drive (AWD). The RX 350h has a hybrid motor paired with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that has a total system output of 246 horsepower. It gets a Natural Resources Canada estimated city/highway/combined fuel economy of 6.3/6.8/6.5 litres per 100 kilometres. The RX 500h pairs a 271-hp 2.4-litre turbocharged inline-four with an electric motor to deliver 366 hp and 406 pound-feet of torque. NRCan estimated fuel economy for this powerhouse is 8.7/8.4/8.6 L/100 km.
The RX 450h+ PHEV is powered by a high-capacity lithium-ion battery paired with a 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine. It has a total system output of 304 hp, and it has a 60-kilometre all-electric driving range. When equipped with a trailer brake, both the hybrid and PHEV can tow up to 1,585 kilograms (3,500 pounds), but without the brake they can only tow 450 kilograms (1,000 pounds).

Interior
The interior of the 2026 Lexus RX has a driver-focused cockpit design, placing all gauges and controls within easy reach and sight of the driver. The RX Hybrid and PHEV are five-passenger vehicles with several thoughtful cargo spaces. There is a front cubby ahead of the gearshift, and the large centre console box can be opened from both the driver and passenger side. There is 838 litres of cargo space behind the rear seats and a total of 1,308 litres with all seats folded flat. Power folding 40/20/40 rear seats are available. A power tilt-and-slide moonroof is available on the lower RX 350h models, while more expensive packages equip a panoramic glass roof.
Technology
The 2026 Lexus RX Hybrid and RX PHEV are packed with technology. Standard features include a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, 9.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, six USB ports, a 12-speaker Lexus premium sound system, single-colour ambient lighting, a wireless phone charger, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Available tech features include a head-up display, 14-inch infotainment screen, surround-view camera, thematic multi-colour ambient lighting, a 21-speaker Mark Levinson premium sound system, and a power liftgate with kick activation.
The RX 350h, 450h+ and 500h also offer various connected technologies including Safety Connect with a minimum five-year trial, Service Connect with a minimum five-year trial, Remote Connect with a three-year trial, and Drive Connect (including the cloud navigation and digital assistant) with a three-year trial.
