Hyundai Motor Group’s luxury arm, Genesis, launched in the US as a standalone brand in 2015, and has been expanding its line-up ever since. One thing it’s always lacked, however, is a full-size flagship SUV, but that looks set to change when the Genesis GV90 hits dealerships as a 2026 production model. The Korean automaker first teased the prospect of the new flagship electric SUV during an even int New York in March 2024 when it provided journalists with a first look at the Genesis Neolun Concept. That car was effectively a prototype for what will become an all-new, all-electric full-size SUV and the standard-bearer for the range, taking over from the Genesis G90 sedan and sitting above the Genesis GV80 in the automaker’s SUV line-up.
Once the GV90 launches, it will join the Genesis line-up of battery electric vehicles, which includes the Electrified G80, Electrified GV70, and the Genesis GV60 subcompact crossover. The launch of a large electric luxury SUV will put the brand in competition with vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV, Volvo EX90, and Cadillac Escalade IQ, and put it ahead of brands with gaps in their line-up such as Lexus, BMW, and Audi. It’s even been suggested the brand be taking a run at ultra-luxury brands such as Rolls-Royce, Range Rover, and Bentley with this new Genesis flagship.

2026 Genesis GV90 styling
Genesis styling tends to be out-there by luxury standards but still relatively staid compared to mainstream stablemates from Hyundai and Kia. The Neolun Concept follows this ethos with what the brand terms “reductive design,” which features clean lines and a minimum of extraneous details.
At the front, the GV90 earns brand recognition through an extension of the luxury brand’s two-line lighting signature, which is elongated to wrap around wheel wells. The bottom of the two lines descends into a V shape at the front of the vehicle to create a detail similar to a grille. Electric side steps will be integrated to help occupants get into and out of this large SUV.
Although Genesis originally hinted the coach doors seen on Neolun might make it to production — “development of the B-pillarless coach doors has reached a level where its application to production vehicles is now feasible,” company representative said — an early camouflaged test car has been photographed with traditional rear doors.
2026 Genesis GV90 interior design and practicality
While the lack of a B pillar may see production, we expect many of the interior design details shown in the Neolun Concept will not.
In the concept, the front seats swivel to face the second row. This looks great in theory but is rarely applied in practice. The materials used in the Neolun Concept include cashmere, leather, and wood flooring, and Genesis says the speakers in the sound system has been laid out to create a concert hall-like feel.
Neolun is also fitted with an intriguing radiant heating system, which applies a film to surfaces such as the dashboard, floor, and door trim. This plays off the concept of “ondol,” integrated heating that is found in both traditional and modern homes throughout Korea.
A yoke-like steering wheel, a single large central infotainment screen with no separate instrument cluster, and roof-mounted screens for rear passengers add to the futuristic look and feel. Again, though, it’s not clear which, if any, of these features will make the cut and appear in the new model.
While Neolun had only two rows of seating, the GV90’s large layout is spacious enough for a three-row configuration, and we expect it will be offered. What’s interesting to consider is whether Genesis might produce an ultra-luxurious two-row executive version for some markets.
