Mercedes-Benz E-Class (1995 - 2001) Reviews, Pricing & Specs

This is my third Benz; I like it very much. While it is over a decade old, the previous owner was very good about care and maintenance so it is in very good shape. It is a high-end luxury car so the power and handling isn't what you'd expect from a sports car but it moves when it needs to and it handles very well, especially with the 4-wheel drive. I used to commute quite a ways every work day and it made that a pleasant experience; now if it could only do something about the other drivers on the road, it would be perfect! Oddly enough, it is often a boring experience; there just isn't a lot of tweaking and fiddling with controls to do. You mostly set things and they just work. Lots of nice little touches that are now standard on lesser cars (interior lights that fade out; exterior lights that stay on a bit so you can see your way, dual zone climate control, etc.). I was wary of the "new" styling but I really like it now; the current crop of Benzs look like the standard melted jelly beans. Feb 06, 2014

I drive about 400 miles each and every week. This car has been faultless in every way. Mileage is around 30 MPG freeway. Very comfortable and the amenities are well thought out and actually useful. I bought this as the second owner and now have about 115,00 miles on it. The TV commercial with the big baby which turns out to be the guy's car, makes complete sense to me...I really understand how someone can truly feel so good about their automobile. In 1999 Car and Driver said this is the fastest sedan ever to drive the face of the earth. It looks elegant and nobody expects it to have the massive power that it does. It is faster than a corvette and does it while hauling 5 passengers! Last car AMG built before being purchased by Daimler! Now AMG makes cosmetics and sport packages this was a the last of the true AMGs! This is classified as a SuperCar like a Ferrari or a Porsche would be. Bought my E55 AMG 2 years ago with 62K miles. Replaced all belts, fluids, spark plugs, engine mounts, a seal, etc...Since then it's only needed gas, oil and Tires. This car is a beast!! Unbelievable power, very aggressive look, Great gas mileage for what it is (drove from Houston to Florida at 80-100 mph and averaged 25.8 mpg!!! If you find one, invest in the up front preventative maintenance and enjoy!! I highly recommend this vehicleMar 28, 2010

I have now owned two of these Mercedes E 320 Convertibles - best Convertible I know of - solid, built like a tank, beautiful styling and durability. The only weak point I know of is the engine wiring harness - mine had to be replaced after 93,000 miles and this part was not what i expect from Mercedes quality - otherwise I think any newer model like the CLK can't touch the E 320Apr 02, 2009

What a car, it was the 2.3 litre straight 4, big menacing and black, fitted the AMG alloys and kept clean, kept it for 18 months until somebody T-boned the side, apart from knackering the detents on the gearbox which only actually cost £17 it never went wrong and with the insurance payout and what I got when I sold it means the car cost nothing to own for 18 months, cant get much better than that, and it started the love affair with W210 style Avantgarde mercsMar 29, 2008
