Excellent, reliable car that gave no real trouble.
Mainly driven by my wife for shopping and to her job at a charity shop.
Very easy to maintain but spare parts are not easy to obtain so I think it is time to
consider a modern car.Aug 19, 2011

a 1.4s, my first car and we all have good memories of our first car, mine had done 240,000 miles before it died of rust monkeys, very reliable and if it wasn't you could repair it by smacking it with a hammer, good handling, quite nippy, cheap to run and very fond memoriesSep 24, 2010

It is small, nippy on the road, is excellent condition for it's age and doesn't cost much to fill the tank and i also get plenty of miles to gallon. Even around town. Not bad for a 1st car. xSep 06, 2009

This is a pretty neat car. Cant see it being helpful in anything besides a cheap transportation. Thats why i cut the back off. get some more air into the car and a little more useful for moving things.
These things are surprisingly loud too. Has a deep growl that shocks me every time i start it.Aug 20, 2009

Typical Ford, was a 1.1 Popular plus, (it had head rests). Performance was better when it went to unleaded, but had to be careful when going into first because you could easily put it into reverse. Had more holes than a colander and the bird crap was keeping the car together!Aug 17, 2009

performance - there isnt much of this but still enough to have a good time!!
build quality - its 25 years old and still on the road, its abit rusty tho!
appearance - gorgeous!!
cost of ownership - small engine = cheap to run!
fun factor - i love it, if its lowered its like a go cart!!!Feb 24, 2009

The original Ford Fiesta is one of my favourite cars. It was my first car and was an excellent training ground. It had just enough power from the 950c ohv engine and only the basic essentials inside. Handling was exellent, and I even treated my 950 Popular with a brand new 'XR2' sports gear knob from Trimoco Hertford. I was very proud.Nov 01, 2008

It wasn't all that quick (I was once beaten off the lights by an Escort LX) but it
looked nice. The only car I have ever owned that had a sunroof.
Built quality was OK but mine blew up so I don't have much regard for the 1.6
engine.Jul 08, 2008

Fairly quick but its only a 1.1 on carbs
Good quality built for its age, it is 25 years old you know!
It's just a good 70's Old school ford
Cheap insurance and fairly ok on fuel, could be better
Nothing better that chucking it into corners like a rally star in the forest!Jul 04, 2008

if your looking for a a hot hatch with that little bit extra this is the car for you. the mk11 xr2 is unlike most hot hatches you will find today in as much it does not need ££££'s spent on it to make it go round courners really well, it already does that. it's wide and low body are the best ingredients for this, that and a hard suspension. it has a good little engine to. its 1.6 engine pushes out 96 bhp and if it is in good nick you will hit 60 in just under 10 secs. which is, even by todays stanards of a 1.6 engine....pretty quick.... and this car was made in the 80's. there are few luxuries in this car, like a air con or traction controll, but only because of its age. it has all the luxuries you should expect in a car this age......... good performance, really comfy bucket seats, tons of leg room, pleanty of room in the back and in the boot. i could comfortably cruise to the south of france in this car. it's fantastic.
but with every car the are it's draw backs. you have to keep the engine in good nick to keep it running unfortunatlly it's age really does start to show on that part. it also rusts a bit this late in the game. but even with these problems i love it..... if you were really commited to doing this car up and had about £3000 to spend on the engine and suspension and maybee a little bit of welding if it has not been looked after you would have yourslef one of the hottest hatches on the block. Not your average Mk3, XR2 engine, road rally cams and aload of other gumf, I don't want to give away all her secrets!
She might be an old girl and her body needs a bit of love which isn't easy being a 4 door, but she still goes like you wouldn't believe!

We bought this car as a cheap run about. It cost us about £400 from the car auction. It was the 1.6 XR2i. Whoever owned it before us had fettled with the suspension. It handled great and the acceleration was fantasticFeb 24, 2008
