I love my 1995 Mercedes C280. Everything about it is perfect. It runs like a dream. It is a sound car that makes me feel safe in the road. The reliability it provides is why I bought it. It is good on gas with options that are easy to understand and operate. It is loaded for a 1995 with leather, moonroof and even a 6 cassette changer. It offers a roomy ride for me and my occupants with a good sized trunk suitable for groceries or other shopping needs. The built in first aid kit in the backseat was ahead of it’s time. I love my 28 year old car and will hopefully be driving it another 28 years. Mar 01, 2023

Emmisions exempt, great accelleration, sporty semi-compact, straight six engine that resembles the old diesel Mercedes Ive had in the past....easy to do a tune up.
Very easy to see all blind spots the way the windows and frame are integrated...many recent cars Ive had do not have this aspect which makes lane changes difficult, very easy to see all around the outside of vehicle.
These older mercedes are alot easier to work on and maintain than most think, and parts are not that expensive.
It will spin tires with force, strong engine purrs with an almost roar at start up.
Only thing I dont like is the wide turning radius, like the old 80s models...wears out edges of front tires abnormally faster than more modern steering applications.
I plan to keep this car forever, will get better front tires/look into adjusting/modifying front end for better low speed handling...very good high speed handling...super solid car.Jun 28, 2022

This is a solid, well-built, powerful car with Mercedes quality and not all the complexity of newer models. It is not inexpensive to maintain, but at 147,000 miles still looks and performs better than most new cars. The engine and brakes are as good as it gets.Oct 15, 2014

This was my first car and I bought it when it was 10 years old with 190K miles. Being an inexperienced and still-learning driver I drove this hard and heavy, and even with the high miles it was the same the day I sold it as the day I bought it. I would absolutely buy another.Jul 17, 2012

Excellent car. I like the W202 styling and performance. The interior, as almost all Mercedes, is very durable and comfortable. Great performance out of the 2.8 straight six. Various trim options, mine was the sport model and an upgrade CD player from a Lotus.Jul 22, 2010

This car was a first class ride. It was fast and performed flawlessly. I actually regret selling this car because it was such a good looking, high performance, superb ride and handling machine with all the options i could ever want. Plus it got from 25-32mpg overall. May 29, 2010

A very high quality year for this mercedes in this class. current
models at this price are not as well made. this car is a class act ,
well appointed with all leather seats and doors, extremely well
handling and stellar breaking. Well worth the investment. Can't
imagine driving anything less in this category. Sedans do not
compare to as well designed as this. For $30,000 in 1994 it was
all worth it. Try to get a car like this today new for 30K, it will
cost you 50K. Mercedes, don't lower your standards.Mar 22, 2010

Impressive performance for the money; acceleration was good. Although, more power on hand before the supercharger kicked in would've been nice. Superior built quality. Mercedes-Benz without issues experienced by later MB's due to the ghastly merger with Chrysler. Beautiful, "restrained but classy" exterior design. Interior deign absolutely beautiful for its price. Should have come standard with electronically adjustable front passenger seat! No maintenance issues at all. The drive was classic Mercedes-Benz; nice, heavy, smooth, gliding ride quality.Dec 20, 2009

Build Quality is some of the best that I have ever seen. Car now has 300k without ANY major repairs only maintainance. Drives like it is brand new. Accelleration is very good for a big 4cyl, cost of ownership is actually very low and. Its a very relaxing car to drive. I think if I were to throw the Kompressor kit on it I would get into a little more trouble with it hahaha.Dec 04, 2009

Just look at this cute, medium sized thing. Its what every family needs, not to big, not too small, its just right. It has enough power to overtake and scramble up hills, but at the same time it has wallet-friendly fuel usage. Lots of little extras make driving more fun, and as always, Mercedes build quality leaves nothing to be desired.Jul 10, 2009

Amazing acceleration and braking, tracks just like on rails. Nice array of equipment. Parts cost reasonable, dealership service is exemplary. Does 9 L/100 km highway driving, about 14 L/100 km in town. And great, supportive Multi-Contour front seats too!May 30, 2009

great acceleration once the supercharger kicks in
braking- stops on a dime
handles like a dream
solid as a rock-some squeaks and rattles but its
from the cold i think.
no reapairs except for the wiper linkage. which is
only about $200 to fix.
exterior-classy and sophisticated yet sporty and
aggressive
interior - with the carbon fiber dash and and two
toned seats, luxurious and sporty.
gas mileage is great but it is a benz and
maintenance isnt always cheap ( 46 dollars for an
oil change ) but its definitely worth it.
i've had two cars before this a honda civic and a
chrysler 300m this is the most fun ive ever had
driving except for driving a cherokee srt8. Love it
I would definitely recommend this car to a friend, if
you dont mind the maintenance costs and
premium fuel its fantastic. Gotta love the TRUE
Mercedes Benz quality, not the chrysler crap that
they pass as a mercedes now.Dec 21, 2008

nice car for its age, much better than many new cars!
great engine, good automatic gearbox. Rust can be a problem on older models but its easy to ignore when you take it for a ride. The handeling and engine makes you forget the outside rust on the car. Its simply pure joy to drive! I do love my MB C class. And so cool and pointy design, very much in fashion these days!Sep 26, 2008

It is a great comfortable and reliable car. The build quality is superb, like in any other Mercedes-Benz. The running costs are very lov, the haven't been any troubles with it, and it is economic to. I think the AMG front on my car, makes it look a bit sportier than normal :) It is a brilliant autobahn cruiser.Sep 11, 2008

Acceleration is good after 40MPH car has better top speed than acceleration.
Brakes are one of the best i have ever used.
Build Quality is probably better than the new ones
Appearance is a little out dated but not bad.
Cost of Ownership is pretty cheap when you consider this car has never left me stranded or required major repair
Fun Factor - Handling is off the chain
80,000 miles and still can hit 130MPH would go faster but its Limited at that speed did i mention its an Inline-4Sep 10, 2008

The Mercededs C220 was the successor to the popular 190e and provided Mercedes Benz with an entry model to the brand. While providing many amenities, this particular lacked power. Ride quality is great (even now at 200,000+ miles), but handling is somewhat compromised at the limit. Arguably some would say that this type of vehicle is not used to such adventures. On the brighter side, fuel economy is great. The vehicle is 12 years old, and gets a decent 30-32 miles per gallon.Jun 30, 2008

Very satisfied with this car. Good power, good fuel economy, extremely comfortable all year round. Looks much better than even the newest cars nowadays, but at the same time it doesn't scream, "look at me, I'm an exotic 2-door Ferrari! I have money!"

I liked my 1998 C230 a little better overall due to simpler engine , better gas mileage and runs at lower temp. C280 is faster , smoother and motor is really quiet under acceleration . Can hear a faint transmission whine under modest acceleration because motor is so quiet whereas 230's 4 cylinder moderate buzz made trans. sound unnoticed . Got 29 mpg on hwy. at 75-80 with 3 people in the C280 . Rides more like a larger luxury car but smaller size makes around town maneuvering a breeze yet suspension is not floaty . My son's 1994 BMW 325i feels like its much better connected to the road than either C230 or C280 but its not in the same ballpark in terms of quality of interior and exterior materials/paint quality . At 81,000 miles the C280 is tight as new except very slight driveway speed side to side play in steering . Car makers --- put grease fittings back on ball joints and knuckles !!!! Jan 17, 2008

This was my next purchase after a BMW 535i 1993. A 4 cylinder 2.3 engine can compare to BMW's 3.5 6 cylinder in-line, but besides hp, it stands toe-to-toe with the 535i. This was a few years before Chrysler bought Benz and before C230s started having electrical problems that could never seem to be fixed so I haven't had any costly problems yet with it. Changed the brakes for almost half of the market prices for Mercedes parts. After all, brakes are brakes. I don't think you need to pay extra for the same quality just because it comes with a Benz logo. Overall, great gas mileage, inexpensive to maintain because it never broke, shares the tie for my most enjoyable car buy with the BMW.Jan 08, 2008
