This van is comfortable and reliable, have had some issues with the suspension, especially the shocks and linkage, including the tie end rods and strut tower upper mount. Found that this defect is common for the Dodge and Chrysler vans. Overall if you stay on top of these issues this van will last forever....Sep 15, 2014

The Grand Caravan is a good all around family vehicle. The 3.3 L Engine is peppy enough to get you out and about, and up and going. Plenty of room inside, with oodles of storage. Visibility and handling are good. It may not be as stylish and sleek as an SUV, but, it serves its purpose as an all around family vehicle.Nov 11, 2013

3.8 V6 had a great sound to it. With the pedal down, the power just isn't there. GVWR is over 8,000 lbs so it's hard to get this thing to accelerate. Lots of body roll, but AWD keeps everything composed in any terrain/condition. Brakes aren't as touchy as most vans I've drove but worked good. I had fun driving this van. Top speed only limited by drag...got it to 105 mph. Typical surface rust on lower edges of vehicle and undercarriage. Love the visibility with the short hood and huge windows all around. Interior styling is minimal but very practical. Exterior styling seems very bland. I don't like the appearance of vans in general, but the 1999 Plymouth Voyager front fascia was much better than the Dodge or Chrysler ones IMO.Mar 18, 2013

Has decent performance, it is a mini van so not going to win any races, the fuel economy isnt that great but its ok. has plenty of room, i hauled a washer and my wife and 2 kids still had plenty of room. styling isnt to bad ours has a decal on it so that makes it look a little better.Jan 25, 2012

Excellent van that accelerates well and handles perfectly. It's a dependable vehicle and a nice quiet ride. Cleaned and shined this is a beautiful van but like any van, it requires due diligence to keep it looking good. The seats come out easily making it easy to keep up. Gas mileage is anywhere from 18 to 23 depending on how well it's tuned. If the mileage decreases, it might be time for new plugs. All in all, the 99 is a good year for this model.Mar 19, 2011

Performance: Decent, nothing special, but I don't need more.
Build Quality: Interior and Exterior are holding up really well for a 13 year old van. Haven't had to do anything major to it, just basic maintanance stuff, and it's got 165k on it.
Appearance: I don't look away from it in the parking lot, ha ha. It's a minivan, but at least has alloy wheels...
Cost of Ownership: gets around 16-18 MPG in town and 22-24 highway. Maintenance is pretty cheap as I do it all myself, although changing spark plugs, fuel filter, and air filter is a little bit of a pain.
Fun Factor: it's a minivan, so not really all that fun to drive, but it's way better than my 99 corolla for long road trips, and love to have the extra room too.Sep 13, 2009

Yeah, go ahead and laugh but I love this van. It's roomy, powerful and fully loaded with power everything and a killer Infinity sound system. I drove it to Colorado and back this summer without a lick of trouble and got 25 mpg.Aug 20, 2009

It's a good family vehicle. But, don't like all the stupid noises it makes; that my mechanic can't find out what's wrong with it. Nice higher view above cars. Quad seating is much better than the bench seat in the second row. The Grand is much better than the regular size although it's not supposed to be that much difference.Jul 16, 2009

performance- almost 10th year of owning and the electicity is a bit off and it rattles when i brake at high speeds, overall still rides smooth and is comfortable
build quality- 180,000 miles and still runs well, overall it is execllent only real problem ever was the transmission had to be rebuilt 2 years ago, other than that it has been a dream. trunk door window rattles when you back up
appearance- desperate need of a paint job, new rims. leather has maintained well execpt driver side which start ripping after 8 years. a seat cover makes in unnoticable though
cost of ownership- poor gas mileage which keeps declining as van ages.
fun factor- lots of space inside and rides smoothMay 08, 2009

I love my Grand Caravan. With a large family (Myself, Husband, 3 daughters, Son-in-Law and Granddaughter) it really fits the bill in terms of seating. And the removable seats make it easy to haul large loads. The double sliding doors are great for access to either side of the vehicle.Jan 10, 2009

I did like that the Sport edition came with a 3.8 V6 and it made the van pretty quick, even for a minivan, and luckily enough the transmission never quit, it's usually the first thing to go. It wasn't the funniest thing to drive but then again it was a minivan and it surved it's purposeJan 05, 2009

We bought this van when it was 2 years old and other than having to replace the tranny which is expected with Grand Caravans, it has been a very good vehicle for us. We still have it and plan to drive it til it dies. It's heading to 200,000 miles and has been on many long trips around the country. We got the LE model so it has a lot of nice features making it comfy and durable!Jun 13, 2008

The Grand Caravan has the Mitsubishi 3 liter engine, which was my engine of choice. I like the high-revving capability of the 3.0.
The only problems have occurred recently, at 99700 miles.
1. The air condition pulley keeps throwing off belts, and I've been told that this is because the pulley is out of alignment. Haven't had it fixed yet.
2. Air Bag idiot light keeps going on and off.
3. Oil pan has a Kelly plug because of an incompetent shadetree mechanic (myself) insisted on changing oil himself and rounded off the drain plug.
Other than a failed battery, that has been all in the last 8 years of ownership! Once I work out the handful of bugs, I may just keep it.

The road noise is terrible...LOUD. The air vent directional flaps inside the vents have all snapped off. The airbag light is on and neither the horn, nor the cruise control work.May 12, 2007
