Bought the truck primarily to take our kids to and from school and vacations and has been very reliable on the road. Like the looks, the performance is good for a big truck ( 5.7 liter 2 wheel drive ) worth the money. Gas mileage is pretty good and has a big tank 43 gallons big so at $4.00 a gallon it was a bit expensive to fill up.May 15, 2015

I would recommend this vehicle to others who need like to haul heavier items and want reliability. It is a great Truck to have and they are fairly cheap to purchase. Parts are cheap enough and they have a great use.Jan 30, 2015

No other SUV can move the amount of stuff and people and still be comfortable. For skiing , camping airport runs, space to load stuff from the hardware store. Power considering it size , towing boats and flat bed trailers are great.Sep 23, 2014

great vehicle for the working man or family man rugged and reliable. You just can't find a vehicle these days with this much room.this is a working man's SUV. And 4 wheel drive when you need it. plus, ice cold air front and rear.Jul 01, 2014

Love My truck has space and drives well. Just hate that as like all cars sometimes you have to fix and cant always do yourself. But the vortek motor is a dream beyond belief it gets up and goes. YESMay 04, 2014

This was a great truck! I still miss driving this truck even though it was 20 years old. This truck had a great suspension and soaked up the bumps like nothing out there! It wasn't the fastest and it shifted pretty hard from 1st to 2nd gear. Sometimes when going into 2nd the tires would squeal how hard it shifted! We always drove it like that though and it never failed.the truck got about 14 driving around and The tank was so huge that one time when a couple of friends and I were driving to town it died because we were going down a pretty steep hill and all the gas went to one side of the tank! It started right up though and we continued on! The ABS system wasn't very good on dirt roads but it worked great on pavement!!! The stops were very straight and stopped in a heartbeat!! However, if the ABS was on a surface with a lot of traction (pavement) and you pushed the brakes all the way then the truck would stall. It was wierd but that's how it was. This truck has a very good quality feel to it and feels very safe when riding in it. The steering was really good and the handling was average. This truck is perfect for someone who wants a truck that can take them to work or to school and can carry a lot of people or cargo. This would be a good beginners truck and is built like a tank for people who like feeling safe when they driveJan 18, 2014

This is my 3rd Suburban. For the family, long trips and being an all around people mover you can't beat it. You can get fancier but you'll be worrying about stupid things like scratches. It's a 'get it done' type of SUV. I love mine. Every year something happens that proves that I can't find a better ride. The one day a year there is a blizzard in my town, my wife went into labor and I had to drive through 5 foot snow banks and into oncoming traffic uphill (in 4wd) to get her to the hopsital. Other cars were sliding off the road right in front of me. After a storm the other day a huge tree fell in our yard, leaning up against another tree almost taking it out. No problem, get out the tow straps and wrap it around the tree to pull it down (in 4wd). Not to mention when the wife wants new funiture, guess how it gets home? A grown man just can't drive anything else.Dec 10, 2013

One of the best vehicles ive owned, except the gas mileage.
For it being as big as it is it sure will get up and go when needed, best thing to have in the winter other than a AWD vehicle.Oct 21, 2013

I love the spaciousness of this car. It is suprisingly easy to handle. For being such a big vehicle it is fun to drive. There is not a lot of noise while driving it on the highway which is a plus.Sep 17, 2013

Fun truck to go any where with. I can go to work, go up north with ALL the buds, hook an ice shack or trailer on or anything basically. Fully loaded with power everything, love the space hate the mileage. I can't wait to straight axle convert this hog! The vortec 350 is also a huge plus compared to the tbi or carb...Mar 07, 2013

I liked that it's 4x4 and I could take it off road. I love that it's roomy. I never had any problems with the vehicle. Just the radiator and the starter. This SUV has been in the family for 12 years.Aug 02, 2012

We ordered this truck brand new and have driven it for 18 years and even after buying a newer vehicle I miss a lot of the features and comforts that this truck has. It's a hell of a vehicle and has been part of the family!May 25, 2012

This is the family vehicle that I was taught to drive in. Being an SUV, the wheelbase is large, which takes a bit of getting used to, especially when parking. Generally, I'm not a fan of auto design from the 1980s onward, but I feel that Chevy managed to shape good-looking trucks and SUVs up through the 1990s, and this Suburban is no exception. Gas mileage is about what you might expect of a V8-powered vehicle, though with a 42 gallon fuel tank, it doesn't need to be filled up all that often (though it can get mighty expensive when you finally do need to fill up.) Behind the wheel, I found the Suburban to be surprisingly responsive. I've always felt completely in control of the vehicle whenever an opportunity to drive it has arisen, even when driving off-road.
Overall, this vehicle is a pleasure to drive, and I would recommend it to anybody who seeks a sturdy, reliable vehicle with lots of cargo space and off-road capabilities.Mar 16, 2012

Great power and tourque. Gas mileage is pretty crappy, but it makes up for it in looks and performance. Great for camping and cruising thru any terrain. Fun to drive! 4:10 gears, front and back. Welded rear spindle. 4 inch lift with 35'sNov 14, 2011

Well over 200K and still runs like new. All the room for family to pile in and head out for whatever you want. Never been in shop for repairs other than routine maintenance. Gas mileage is OK for the size and weight of the vehicle. Brakes could be better but they will stop with adequate distance you don't tailgate in this babyAug 04, 2011

I love this truck/SUV because it is tough and takes a beating. I can drive around with a carful of tools or family members to get the job done no matter what. The only downside to all that room, power, and solid body is the gas costs to run the big old beast.Jun 08, 2010

Everything about this vehicle is perfect for me, from the towing capabilities, to the fact that my whole family can fit in it, and we still have room to put stuff in the back. The paint job is perfect for me. The Vortec 350 has plenty of power, and being it's a 4x4 is perfect for summer mudding or for the winter snow around here.
My only issue is the 4L60E transmission, had to replace the first winter I had it, the housing cracked. When I unbolted it from the transfer case, 5 pieces fell into my hand.Jun 06, 2010

Got one used for cheap, 257K miles. We love it and we want our next vehicle to also be a Suburban. The 350 engine is reliable, and since it isn't a 4x4 it gets almost the mileage my '94 Silverado gets. There's plenty of room for everything and everyone.Apr 03, 2010

Great all around truck, well built, easy to maintain, easy to repair, holds 8 passengers or seats fold down and remove for a full 8 ft enclosed bed, 5.7L LS1 has great hp and torque, passes on highway with ease even with many passengers or towing a trailer, shift on the fly tranfer case works great for the most part, rarely it will jam in 4-low....Sep 21, 2009

This Suburban has been a true workhorse. It's moved 3 households, pulled horse trailers, hauled product to Dallas and Houston with a trailer, made it from Houston to Atlanta in 12 hours flat, and has held up well given the 187,000 miles on it. It just recently had to have a rebuilt transmission. Nov 21, 2008

A very well made and solid vehicle. Very dependable. Good handling for its size. It does suck gas though. Very comfortable on long trips. 360000 kms. and still looks okay.
Recommend this car if you pull a large trailer and have 3 young children in car seats. Also recommend 3/4 ton 4x4 as they have more solid components.

i love having a 7.4 litre and 4 wheel drive. it will pull anything you put behind it and its jet black. its also a retired government truck so it is pretty much solid. filling it up sucks because it has a 60 gallon gas tank. it is really cool. if you have money for gas this is the perfect vehicle for you.Aug 30, 2008

This truck was awesome. It had the 454 CID V8, so power was never an issue, and was equipped with a class IV receiver hitch and trailer braking controller, so it could tow just about anything. It was equipped with 1 ton suspension, and rode like a real truck. The 4x4 worked great, and was controlled with a mechanical linkage, rather that an electric switch, so it never had any problems. however, since the truck had a posi rear end, I rarely needed the 4x4. The truck had the silverado trim package, with all the bells and whistles, and seated 8. It had the burgundy interior, and was painted a fairly uncommon charcoal grey. Additionally, it had the rear barn doors instead of the liftgate. the truck was very reliable, it never had any major mechanical issues. when sold in 2005, it had 167,000 miles on it, with the original 4L80 transmission, the truck ran like new and shifted beautifully, and burned no oil.Apr 10, 2008

I have 170K miles on it and have been blessed with a great vehicle. Taking care of it with 3,000 mile oil changes, tire rotations and scheduled maitenance has made this a real winner.May 12, 2007
