Great engine, loved that classic camaro styling. Fast down a straight way. V8 engine sound.
However it...
Slurped gas. Carburetor had issues starting when cold. Noise from exhaust caused neighbor to constantly egg car and put nails in its tires. Thanks officer! No trunk space. No traction at all in rain or snow. Police magnet.
It was awesome the year it came out by 2001 it was a bit of a dinosaur. I recommend fuel injection over carb models and if you can get posi traction that will help. Oct 26, 2014

I've owned this IROC for 15 years. I bought it from the original owner here in Oregon. It's always garaged and covered. It's been a mulitple award winner at regional car shows. I would not sell or trade it for anything!Jun 09, 2014

I love the ride quality, handling, and comfort. It's very snappy off the green light, with a lot of power. It has a very clean, sleek, and mean stance, and is well complimented with the T-tops. Very much a gear-head vehicle, definitely not a family car, and expectedly not as fuel efficient, but shouldn't be expected from a muscle car. Not a winter vehicle, but with the addition of weight in the spare well (sand bags) it is doable. more cargo space than expected, if you lay the rear seat-backs down. A lot of light inside, and good visibility once you get used to the odd blind spots. Over all, I really like this car, and the pros outweigh the cons depending on your lifestyle.Mar 21, 2013

Stylish in the 80s, but it does not have a classic look that would grab attention today. The unique attribute of the early 80s was the T-tops. Removing the glass panels was quick, but they took up the entire storage area which was very inconvenient. The 305 small block V8 only made 150hp, but performance was good for the time. Exhaust was well tuned and produced nice low rumble. The 4-speed automatic transmission was weak link as it began to slip after only 3 years and soon had to be rebuilt, of course after the warranty expired. Overall it was a fun car and held its value through the 80s but fuel economy was very poor, averaging around 12 – 13 mpg around town. Jan 06, 2012

My 92 RS is completely stock other than the rims. It is in mint condition no rust or dents. It is the dark teal metallic which was only sprayed in 92. Ive always wanted this body and when I got stationed in AK I found it and bought it.Dec 05, 2010

This car has been my favorite car of all time. I always dreamed of owning one since I was 5. I now have one, and am currently saving to rebuilt it. Even in near stock form, it ran low 15's with economy gears, and still got 22 mpg cruising. The tall gears propelled it to 160 before I ran out of gear. The stock 305 is typicly tossed aside by most people, but it is a good engine and made a lot of torque. 4 wheel disc brakes stopped it quick although it could use a little more rear bias for firmer stopping with less dive. Fun car to drive, easily rolled burnouts into second gear and sounds great with a loud exhaust. I always had heads turning but never got much attention from cops.Sep 19, 2009

A+ love taking this car out and stomping on all the import non sense. Fun in straights and even more fun in corners. Gas mileage sucks, but you don't buy this kind of car to be environmentally or economically friendly.Aug 31, 2009

I bought my '91 Chevrolet Camaro RS primarily as a commuter car that would get me to and from work quickly. (I had a bad habit of waking up late.)
The performance of the V6 engine was adequate even though the Camaro was heavier than it should have been for a V6. The handling seemed loose; an upgrade to the tires, wheels, struts and springs were a necessity for high speed turns.
OVERALL in stock form it was a good car, however upgrades were positively necessary for any kind of performance needed.

Performance - Quick off the line, rides like its on rails
Build Quality - Typical American build quality
Appearance - Exterior - Looks like a menace
Interior - Red and has grown on me
Cost of Ownership - It gets average mileage for a V8, and the maintenance is a typical American car
Fun Factor - 10/10 (its a HOOT)Jul 13, 2009

The performance is all around great, I had a set of 3.73 ring and pinion gears in it and it had very nice acceleration...little too twitchy, though...it would lite up the 10" wide tires at any speed. I put a set of 2.73 gears into it so I would get better mileage on the 40 mile (each way) drive to school. It doesn't accelerate as fast off the line, but once it gets up to about 25mph, it's smooth sailing. I know it will outrun the '08 Mercedes SLK. The handling is all around amazing: tight turning (especially for a 16' car), it hugs the road perfectly through any turn and at any speed. Overall the fast response turning, great speed, great acceleration, and fine-tuned 5-bolt suspension make this car as close to perfect as most people will ever be able to afford.Jun 11, 2009

350 ci motor, built by some friends and myself from interior to motor to paint. It was smog legal, pushed about maybe 380hp + in 90 degree weather to the wheels. funnest car i ever had. it got probably 6 miles to the gallon with a 4spd auto (700r4 trans). could not drive it in the rain what so ever. tires would break loose at 60 on free way if i accelerated just a bit... lot of good memories in this car.Mar 06, 2009

Performance- My transmission was never 100% from the start so I never got its full potential. But for a V-8 I felt it was pretty slow.
Build Quality-The only thing that was bad were the T-tops. They leaked BAD! so if you ever buy one test it with a hose or check it out after a rainy night.
Apperance-After I painted the racing stripes, the grill and rims black it looked good and unique. I also tinted the rear window, before that it just looked ok.
Cost-Passing smog killed me...$500 later it finally passed. Other than that gas milage was ok.
Fun Factor-SO fun! Ill never forget fishtailing around every turn in the rain never being able to get traction.Feb 01, 2009

Performance - is decent its not the fastest car out there but its fun to drive.
Build Quality - is good the doors need realigning though. and little rattles here and there.
Appearance - i love the styling of 3rd gen camaros. the interior is red and black! i wouldn't change a thing about it.
Cost - gas mileage is not to great 15 city and 20 highway but hey it's a v8.
Fun - its a blast!Dec 22, 2008

fun to drive and handles great. Also has a very nice paint job. I love the manual transmission that i put in the car myself which makes it a lot more fun to drive and the V8 makes the car get up and go a lot faster than most cars on the market now. Aug 07, 2008

This camaro as most 84 camaro's has a 305 engine, its has alot of acceleration, braking is good, handing is a little loose but when your going as fast as you can they i guess it would be, i have put alot 800 into it and i dont regret a penny of it, its looks great, as for gas, like i said its a 305 V8 so not very good on gas, but does okay as long as you keep your foot out of it. This Car is awesome. The acceleration is ridiculous and i get supper fast supper quick. The build is ok, its a chevy of course. The appearance is pretty decent look and the cost of ownership is quite cheap.
With T-Tops this car is super fun to drive. PeriodJul 11, 2008

I have a 1983 Z28 Stage Three Camaro. It is an amazing car. Fiberglass hood and trim, posi rear end, stage three hi po suspension, T Tops, functional air intake, aluminum wheels, power window, lock and lift gate. I replaced the stock Cross Fire 305 with a hi po 355 that I built myself. Apr 18, 2008

My camaro has a 2.8L V6 and it is everything a car should be. It looks great, drives great, the 5-speed tranny gets you great gas mileage, and has really decent power and you wont pay so terribly much for insurance. Aug 03, 2007

The handling is one of the greatest parts about the car. It also looks great and feels great to drive. You feel like you're in a racecar when you're driving it down the road. There's nothing that feels quite like an '84 Camaro.Feb 12, 2007

I only had the car for a very short time. Insurance at that time as young as I was in that year just killed me. I had to sell the car after only about 8 or 9 months. But I would love to get my hand on one that has been taken care of. The after market mods. are limitless. So is horsepower and speed. I was A Police officer during this time period (had to resign due to a knee injury) but these are the cars that we trained in on the high speed training course. 215HP may not seem like much. But with some minor rear end changes and advance the timing a little some after market air cleaners, headers, and you had what felt like a rocketship. And really I never had any problems that kept mine in the shop. I'ts like I always say take care of your car and it will take care of you.

I only had the 1987 IROC for a little over a year,I opted to buy one with the L98 engine package and at that time it was a great deal of money. So I finally had to sell it because I could not afford the car payments and the insurance both.I was only 19 years old at the time so the insurance companies had alot of fun charging me around $2000.00 a year for coverage. But I loved that car.The L98 5.7 Lit. TPI. produced 225BHP@4400 and 330 ftlb of torque@2800. In other words when you kicked it HOLD ON. There were many other engine opions that year for the IROC but the L98 was the fastest of the bunch. The LB9 was only 215HP,and came with the 5.0lit 305ci engine. And you could go all the way down to the LG2 5.0lit 305ci with 170HP with the 4bbl or 190HP with TPI. This was a car that I still regret not keeping. If your a lucky enough to get one in good condidtion hold on to it.With a little work and some after market performance parts you can get 350-400 HP and really have some fun.Dec 26, 2006
