In general it is a good car to have
1. Mechanically reliable, good engine, good transmission, recently changed tires, never gave me a problem on highway. 2. V6 engine is fast to accelerate on a short highway ramp. 3. leather interior, not have to worry about spill. 4. Sun roof, nice to drive around in summers. 5. heated seat and power seat, very convenient to use. 6. Bose stereo, necessary for musics and radios on a long-distance travel. 7. large enough size, give you more safety and more space inside.Mar 11, 2014

The sporty look of the car. Efficient engine and transmission combination. Reliability so far is great. Keeps the value even after this many years. The average similar Maxima are selling for around $5000 to $6000 which is not bad for a car that is over 12 year old.Jan 06, 2014

In Auatralia this is the Top of the range Model which is the Ti, fitted out with leather trim, power and heated seats, heaps of fake wood trim, sun roof, climate control and the coolest sound systeml.
It's very comfortable to drive, stacks of room inside and a decent size boot (trunk for you Yanks), the 3 litre V6 has plenty of poke and can keep up with the big Aussie cars.May 06, 2013

I love the inside design but i don't love the outside design as much, I think they made some improvements in looks in later models. It has lots of power and still has great gas mileage. Reliability is one of the best. May 29, 2012

The car rides smooth, has quick acceleration, high top speed(about 140-145), never has any problems, maintenance is easy and inexpensive, the handling is pretty good but has a below average turning radius, the Bose sound system really adds to the pleasure of a long ride.Apr 14, 2012

Great and fast car. Handle like a Go Kart. A lot of mods and never saw a quebec winter. Build quality is excellent. It is really fun to drive. Performance are really great but now need a tune-up. Interior is mint ! Black leather seats and carpet are as new.Apr 05, 2012

Christ, this thing is a beast! Nissan's 3.5l VQ engine and the 6spd manual
transmission really get this car going. Its a sleeper for sure. Never have seen a car
that looked good, had lots of room, was comfortable, and performed 0-60mph
times in 5.5 seconds. Nothing like the 5th Generation Nissan Maxima.Nov 05, 2011

We bought our Maxima in 2002 with 34k on it. Very sporty handling and acceleration. At 75k, SVC Engine light started coming on. Traced to faulty firing cells, car would run but miss and stumble. Nissan acknowledged this problem, but would not recall car. $80 apiece times six to replace+labor. This car DOES NOT like Ethanol fuel. I have to run a tank of non-ethanol every 3rd fillup to keep O2 sensors happy. Replaced sensor behind cat. converter as ethanol fuel creates an overrich condition on rear 02 sensor. Mileage is between 26-29 depending of fuel used. Also has odd sized tires, most stores don't stock them. I'm 6'2" and getting in and out is not the easiest. Car does not have a fuel filter, if it plugs up, the fuel pump assembly has to be replaced Mar 07, 2011

aw yeah. I love my car. Drives like a champ. Acceleration is pretty fast and the brakes are touchy which i love. The wheels shakes a lil around 85-90 but im over it. No squeaks and only rattles when I crank up the bass but i fixed that for the most part. The interior is all leather which is nice and i like the look of the outside. Aug 14, 2010

The engine, transmission and body of this car was built very well. The emissions system and are horrible. The check engine light will just have to burn out. The c-pillars/rear doors have WAY too much wind noise. The drivers seat is comfortable for a really long trip (9+ hrs). Aug 01, 2010

Simply one of the best cars I ever owned. I sincerely regret the moment I sold it and I am currently looking for another one. Six speed manual, 260 hp, heated seats and steering wheel, bose, 30 mpg hwy, just pure driving nirvana.Feb 23, 2010

This car is pretty much perfect. Nice design, good features,
great performance, good looking, build quality is fantastic,
inexpensive, etc. The car has run for ten years straight,
never a single problem. Sound system is fine stock. This car is
perfect. Aug 29, 2009

Gotta have 6M, but lottsa torque-steer. Needs stiffer springs and independent rear suspension... its way too soft. Great on the interstate and amazing mileage...I've actually averaged nearly 40mpg with cruise on long trips. Spacious and quiet, but can put you in jail faster than you think.Aug 03, 2009

Great car with excellent features, good performance in terms of acceleration, 255 hp, good brakes and handles well. No issues with build quality, power window motor and blower motor have been replaced. Looks great, kinda timeless, xenon headlights look great. Low cost to own, change the oil every 5K and drive. It's still fun to drive every time I push the gas. ***Update Got to 186K on the odometer and needed a new cat, so I traded it in, still miss it though, great car.Jul 09, 2009

Love this car. Personally, the styling (interior and exterior) are true to the luxury 4-door sports sedan mentality. Exterior has clean, straight lines. The stance is both agressive and refined. Interior has all the luxuries one can want in 2002. It would be nice to have an iPod connection in my car, but would not be possible with my current radio configuation. After 7 years, one of the top engines of it's time is still performing as if it was at its peak. Power matched with supurb fuel economy. Jun 28, 2009

My first car, most powerful car in the family, love to drive, no work needed so far, brakes great, accelerates like no other, great mileage and $3.59 for a gallon of gas is great. I get around 21-25 miles a gallon and i can't believe that i have such a great car!Aug 21, 2008

The 2002 Nissan Maxima GLE has a great blend of upscale comfort and
raw horsepower. It is completely fun to drive, comfortable and reliable. I
believe it was the last good-looking Maxima - the current body style is
blah in my opinion. The 2009 looks great though. I would definitely buy
another Maxima.May 06, 2008

I was never really into cars. Then I bought this in '06. Nissan's VQ is the best V6 on the market, dollars for horses. Period. I love the ride, the acceleration, and the handling. Wish there was a better aftermarket for it...Apr 19, 2008

I love this car. It's probably one of the best cars I've ever driven for the money. I highly recommend it. This one is special because it's the last year that the Maxima was made in Japan.Apr 08, 2008

I owned a 2002 Maxima SE 6 speed manual and drove it about 90,000 miles in less than 3 years. I bought the base model and had the dealer install leather. I had owned a 1999 Maxima SE 5 speed manual prior to this and loved that one too. The 2002 has a much smoother transmission. The suspension is set up a bit softer than the 1999, which wasn't my personal taste, but my passengers seemed to like it. The interior is also very large. At the time, I had two young children in car seats and could fit three car seats across in the backseat. Not many cars that compete with the Maxima can manage that. Fuel mileage was good throughout my ownership. I see these on the road now and think they are probably the best Maxima that Nissan made.Mar 26, 2007
