The 2009 Chevy Equinox is a great family vehicle to own, especially if you live in a suburban area and your normal routine commutes are within 25 miles or so. The fuel economy is fairly poor, therefore, if there is a lot of travel to be done, this would not be your best choice. This vehicle is perfect for a family of four. Ample interior room will give your family comfort for your everyday commute. Feb 08, 2015

This car has a strong engine and passes well. It has good gas milage for an SUV and rides like a car. No major mechanical issues in over 7 years of ownership. Good car for halling grocerys or just getting from a to b.Jan 25, 2015

I love everything about this car, except the repair bill, but that I think is partially fault to the dealership not catching these things prior to my purchase.
It handles great in the snow, Gas mileage is awesome for it being an SUV and having the ability to stuff whatever I can into it is a huge plus.Oct 27, 2014

This vehicle runs quiet and smooth. It's sets high enough to see well in traffic. It had lots of room in the front seat, the back seat plus it can hold a lot of cargo. It is very economical. It gets 22+ mpg. I get a lot of compliments on it. Oct 06, 2014

This car all around is a great car! I wish Chevy still made a similar model as the newer 2010 Equinox isn't an equinox at all and it doesn't have near the comfort or leg room of this one. I've had some bigger guys in my car that all commented on the leg room and comfort of the car. Gas mileage is also pretty acceptable. I know the newer ecoBoost style cars have more HP and better mpg overall, but for the money and the additional leg room, I haven't been able to get myself to buy a new car because i haven't found enough benefits to doing so.
The AWD and Traction Control works awesome! I have a long stone driveway and I've had guys with trucks, my parents minivan, friends cars, that get stuck in the snow and I go through it no problem. Wet pavement and Snow you can literally just floor the pedal and the car will make sure you get going before anyone else that doesn't have good AWD.
No car is perfect and all cars will have maintenance. I'm at 108,000 miles now and so far I've had minimal maintenance in my opinion but there were a couple big repairs but Chevy covered them under the 100k mile warranty. The head gasket was bad, replaced by chevy. I did have to replace both front wheel bearings, both front tie rods, all struts but having owned multiple other cars that all needed similar repairs around 100k miles, I'm not surprised and I feel its acceptable.
I do tow with the car on occasion. I have a wood utility trailer I pull behind it that is a fair size. I don't use it much because it is honestly too big in my opinion as its just a little too wide and i think with a V6 engine, you need a trailer that doesn't extend beyond the side of the car you're towing with. A standard 4x6 utility trailer would be fine for this vehicle. Mine is about 5x8 and made of 2"x8" wood. Not ideal at all. Sep 06, 2013

This has been an incredible car for us! The Equinox is a small SUV with mid-size SUV room! Gas mileage has been good. Dependable but fun transportation. The back seat is perfect for people who have long legs -- they don't have to be scrunched in the back anymore!Jun 20, 2013

Overall a descent car with a good amount of cargo space for a family or hauling a few things from the store. The front seat folds down completely allowing for larger items to be transported.
The heated seats are awesome and the gas mileage descent
Overall the car handles wellNov 15, 2012

Overall the appearance is nice a few scratches on the rear side of the car. The heated seats make the front seats comfortable while the back seats have pleanty of leg room and are adjustable.
The gas mileage is 20-22 in town and 23-25 highway, maintenance costs are fairly low.
The car handles well in all types of weather.Nov 15, 2012

Decent gas mileage at 25 mpg. Handles like a dream. Low to the ground for great corning, you wouldn't know you're in a 4wd capable car. Fast and strong v6 coupled with a long-lasting durable 5 speed transmission. All the safety gizmos you can think of. No complaints, it's a wonderful car.Oct 27, 2012

This is a very smooth ride. Easy on the bumps, comfortable, and has a lot of leg room for your backseat passengers. I know quite a few people have had issues w/ this year Equinox. The only thing I've had to do to mine is regular maintenance. Jan 08, 2011

Great gas mileage 23-25mpg. Rides pretty nice, no real problems other than had to replace spark plugs and wires, apparently per GM a problem with all Equinox's, otherwise great vehicle. Still looks brand new. Good car for the money!Nov 14, 2010

Drives beautifully, easy to handle. I like the looks very much both exterior and interior. Thought the price a bit high at first but was able to negotiate. In all it is a fun car to drive and I have received many compliments.Jun 13, 2009

It feels like a sports car. I have not noticed any needs of repair, and I love the way it looks. Blue, chrome rims, chrome trim. Beautiful. Gas mileage is decent, the one thing I don't like is that setting the heat for remote starting it in the morning is tricky. It is so much fun to drive.Nov 03, 2008

I love my car. I gets good gas mileage, it handles really well, it looks good, well, except it is black and I like on a dirt road and I can't keep it clean. It so far is the best car I have ever had!! I would recomend it to anyone!Oct 23, 2008

Love it. Great amount of space and smooth ride.Handles great. Braking is prety good. Acceleration is awsome. I have not had any trouble to this point. Only thing that went wrong was the battery had a cell go bad. The appearance is great. Inside has a great look and smell.

I love my Equinox. This is the first time I've owned something other than a Ford. Also, the first NEW car I've ever owned. It gets pretty good gas mileage. About 21 town, 27 highway. It is very fun to drive. I haven't enjoyed a vehicle this much since my Mustang. It has lots of room iin the back seat, which was a big selling point for us. Adults sit very comfortably in the back. The only things I'd change is the headrest on the front seats. I'd make them lower for people sitting in the back. I'd also change the fact the the vent would be off instead of on each time you get in. Otherwise I highly recommend it.Jul 28, 2008
