What owners say
"Overall, owners of the 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 rave about its thrilling performance, powerful engine, and unmistakable style. Many loved the exhilarating acceleration and handling, often noting that it turns heads wherever it goes. However, some drivers pointed out concerns regarding handling and rough ride quality, especially given its muscle car focus. Fuel economy also drew some criticism, with several mentioning its thirst for gas."
I suspect the car has clutch issues. Chatters when backing up and you really have to "slip it" to get it moving. Might be from sitting but it was hard to tell since they only let it be driven a couple miles.
May 1, 2026All original , red, 1 owner , 2044 miles . Awesome
September 29, 2023Amazing vehicle. Craftsmanship and engineering are unmatched among American Muscle cars when considering the Gt500 Shelby Cobra. 500 hp and 6-speed manual transmission make the owner experience one in a lifetime. Shelby and Ford go to great lengths to keep this owner experience at the highest level. Buy one and keep for life!

March 30, 2021I purchased my 08 Shelby Torch Red Mustang in 2022. It had 16,000 miles on it at the time of purchase and it had modifications that made it a king of the road. If you want a car that easily spins the tires at just touching the throttle, then this is the car for you. It is easily the most powerful mustang I have owned, and I have owned 6 in the past. It produces 550 rear wheel HP and its a beast. Mine has Flowmaster Chrome Tip mufflers installed on it and they sound great. It also has a cold air intake with a Ford Racing Tune. There is nothing to complain about with its performance other than for some reason these mustangs have wheel hop from the wheels trying their best not to spin but with this much power they have to, and it causes the rearend to get cocked a bit and then the wheels start hopping. If you know how to drive one of these and you aint trying to spin the tires it is not a problem. It can be driven everyday if I wanted to, but I dont. It has ac, power windows, locks, power seats, navigation system and a great stereo sound system. There is nothing to complain about with this car. The ride is a little rough but that is to be expected with all the high-end performance suspension parts and it has a 6-speed trans. I love driving mine anytime I can.
August 20, 2022Love the 500 hp engine and 6 speed transmission.
July 21, 2022Over the years I have owned five Mustangs. Prior to the Shelby they were all SVT Cobra’s. As the years went by each car got better and better. Finally I bought a 2003 terminator. I thought that car would be the pinnacle of all the Stangs. It couldn’t possibly get any better than that car. Then I bought a 2008 Shelby GT500. Holy Cow this is the most amazing car. It has out all. Performance, handling, comfort, reliability and the wow factor. You can jump in the car and ride for a couple of hours and not be crippled when you get to your destination. And who doesn’t love the whine of a super charger. Hold on tight if you nail it, the car will break the tires loose at 40 mph in second gear. Drive it normally and it drives as a normal car would. This is by far the best all around Stanhope of any that I have owned.
February 24, 2022I absolutely LOVE this car!!! The GT500 is the embodiment of the Neo-Muscle Car era, and Ford has really done itself proud with this one. The GT500 accelerates, handles and turns heads like no other Mustang I have ever owned. With everything you get in this package, for the price there is no better bagain out there. I highly suggest if you are a Blue Oval guy/gal pick one up.
August 8, 2010lacks handling, but muscle cars are not made for handling and speed its more for power. the almost 6 litre supercharged ford GT engine supplies 500bhp to the drive system! its great fun to drive but fuel at 12mpg and just being what it is does not make it a practical car. would definately recommend for hiring for a day or two to enjoy driving with power but handling is not too good.
June 10, 2008The handling speed and acceleration on this car are amazing. It handles the road and the track/strip really well!
March 28, 2008Well what do you say about a car that has been around for 50 years, still has a fixed axel in the rear and plenty of muscle in the front. I love it!!! The acceleration is excellent and the breaking is ok. I had the handling improved to that is ok as well. It will never reach the level of a track car you must know. But it is all about emotions in this car. The build quality is not as good as a german car. A lot of plastik. But so far no major repairs. The cost of ownership is mainly tires and petrol. Of course the milage is not too great with a tuned 500 Hp motor. But one I start the engine and hear the sound I do not get the grin off my face. So is it fun? Hell yeah.
