Expert review
The Ford Focus stands out among compact cars, with a sporty chassis and updated styling.
For the better part of the 1990s, Ford participated in the compact car market, but that was the best you could say about it. The Ford Escort represented modest motoring that put thrift above all else. Some years and trims offered a bit of styling flair, but, by and large, the Escort was nothing to write home about.
Then, for the 2000 model year, Ford upped its game, with an all-new compact offering that it called the Focus. This small car, available as a sedan, a three-door hatchback, a wagon, and later a five-door hatchback, put Ford back on the map in the compact car segment. For 2005, the Focus receives several updates, including new styling, updated trim selection, and a new performance edition, called the ST.

What owners say
"Overall, owners of the 2005 Ford Focus generally find it to be a reliable and economical car with good handling and gas mileage. Many drivers appreciated its fun-to-drive nature and comfortable interior, making it a suitable option for commuting. However, some noted issues with paint quality and rear legroom, along with its somewhat sluggish acceleration."
Performance: pretty good performance, really good handling, good braking, decent acceleration for a little 2.0 L Wagon Build Quality: well im just under 100 k and i have only had a little electrical issues with the hatch, other than that no problems Appearance: love it, its the sharpest looking wagon I've seen. love the interior as well. Fun Factor: I love cars so really i find almost any car fun to drive, but i do enjoy this one much more than my Tempo RIP LOL :P
June 10, 2009Top speed :150mph 5 Star handling 4 Star Safety includes air bags Generous space in front and back of the car
January 18, 2008The Ford Focus Wagon has been a great car for me. I've successfully transported 3 kayaks and 4 bikes on camping trips. This car has good pick up, is responsive, and is fun to drive. A/C is ice cold!

August 19, 2012The ST looks more aggressive when the silver grille insert is swapped out with the black one from the SES. I can't give a 5-star rating on the build since there's a LOT of plastic in the interior and unfortunately made more on the "cheap side" causing it to break more easily than in other models. I can only give 4-stars for the 'appearance' category since the black rear-bumper insert doesn't have provisions for a second exhaust tip. This requires fabrication on the user-end. Performance-wise, this car hauls ass and is about as quick as a Mustang GT when purchased as the ST package. On long road trips, a trip to Austin and back was made on only one tank of gas and totalled 408 miles. The Fun Factor increases considerable when adding performance parts from www.steedafocus.com and www.focussport.com. If you're a gearhead, opt in for the Cosworth build-up kits.
August 10, 2009The acceleration is accually not bad, it has the 5 speed transmission which i really like. i purchased a full K&N cold air intake for it and it gave my car 11 hp which that does seem much but it helped out. the interior is just all stock for now nothing done with it. the gas mileage is about 30 mpg. this car is really fun to drive.
August 2, 2009It's a good car for a family sedan. The engine comes stock 136hp, 2.0L Durtec 20, dual overhead cam inline 4. Handles pretty well on wet or dry roads. According to Car and Driver Mag. 0 - 60 is a respectible 7.9s.
May 1, 2008The limited times I have driven it yet were a joy. I have made small fixes with this car and it runs like a dream. It's very low maintenance cost car which is also easy to fix even for the average car owner capabilities.
January 2, 2013Performance - slow accel, great braking and handling Quality - Top notch, well-built Appearance - Ergonomic, simple, easy to use, plain yet perfect, INCREDIBLE HEADROOM Cost of ownership - great gas mileage, no maintenance issues yet Fun Factor - Amazingly fun to drive, blast some tunes, feel comfortable!
August 16, 2009Though a watered down version of the Focus SVT which is the Focus RS of Europe the Focus ST is very strong for being a small sedan. This car has taken a massive beating in terms of getting rear ended and all I have needed was a new bumper. It's performance is second to none as it pops right off the line and can stop to match. Its handling is very well with the Macpherson suspension and the control blade IRS. Its appearance is very Euro to its twin over the pond though its interior is one of its own kind the only difference between it and its Euro Twin. Its easy on fuel and the repairs have been few and far between. I enjoy driving this car very much its a great starter car.
July 7, 2008My 05 Focus hasn't given me a single problem. With the 5 speed manual transmission, it is fun to drive. My other cars are Ford Mustangs which really turn heads, but my Focus gets just as many compliments. Fun car.
