the car is beautiful inside and out. Drives great, good power, handles beautifully, great for winter with the heated seats! All wheel drive is great in the snow! Radio isn't that loud but sounds crisp. Good acceleration fair breaking. Overall other than the cost of maintenance I love my car will be looking into getting another one with less miles.Feb 28, 2015

What a nice surprise owning this Jag has been. After purchase of this car at the end of a 3-year lease, I was greatly impressed with the reliability -- contrary to the reputation Jags have based on its quality before Ford took over. Now JD Power ranks Jag as the #1 most reliable car company and the 2004 x-type gets excellent reviews.Jul 07, 2013

We use it mostly for date nights and trips. we have made 1000 mile trips in it and were not worn out from a bad ride. If you drive it lie a sports car then you get the advertised fuel mileage, but if you take it easy it will get 30 on the highway.

A W D great fun to drive though a bit hard on comfort, good MPG (35 at moment)
holds road like a train, got the winter spec, front heated screen, heated seats etc.
not as comfortable as my S type but 50% more economical and handles better.Mar 10, 2013

I have had this car for 6 or 7 years now and it has been trouble free. The first problem I have had with it is the heater core and can't seem to find an aftermarket one anywhere here in canada. Not bad for owning it this long and this is the first thing to go wrong.Feb 07, 2013

Mechanically, the car is in great condition. The X-Type has to be taken
for what it is. More importantly, for what it is not: a 3-Series competitor.
But as a reliable AWD sedan that looks like nothing else on the road
and is fun and comfortable to drive, there is nothing like it!
Performance is adequate and the build quality is questionable in
places, superior in others. Trim pieces don't fit just right and the
headliner is thin and peels off easy, but the leather is the best in the
business and mechanically these cats will run forever. Great, fun,

car has done everything more than expected, tires have been the biggest expense, would recommend this year of the X-type way above any previous years from my experience and encounters; little expenses can add up good to have friends in the businessJun 29, 2011

Great car taht always turns heads. Some percieve brand as not reliable, but not true after models 2002. Car runs as well as other luxury brands and has very nice features. Much roomier than BMW 3X series. So happy, I am upgrading.Mar 19, 2011

Nice motor!
Its a deisel and does nearly 55 miles per gallon - London to Scotland on just over half a tank!! not bad eh?
Very Confortable for long journeys, probably should have got the higher spec'ed model, but i am please with it. All round its a very decent car. It has covered just over 80,000 miles and still feels like newMar 11, 2010

Terrific for turning heads, and a steal if you can find a low-mileage one like I did. Performance is definitely good enough to make driving enjoyable, but acceleration can be a little sluggish and I could deal with a bit firmer cornering. On the other hand, the ride is silky smooth. Build quality seems to be excellent where it really matters, but a few interior parts are below grade. The exhaust note gets tiring at highway speed, and it's rendered more noticeable by the fact that very little other sound enters the cabin. Recommended, but with caveats: Be aware that the (standard) AWD system reportedly doesn't hold up well to aggressive driving and that, in spite of its relatively modest rating of 198 hp, the 2.5L V6 drinks premium fuel.Dec 09, 2009

people may take the piss, "Mondeo in drag" etc, but this car drives like a true Jag should. Its quick, queit and comfortable, it "wafts" along!
The only thing that really lets it down is some of the dash trim is finished in horrible halfords silver/grey plastic (very Ford), more wood should be the order of the day!Mar 27, 2009

Purely a car - you feel the power under the bonnet.
Performance is great, but really - low profile tires not for the SA market!
The best part of this car? The service from Jaguar. They know how to treat a customer!

Some people have dubbed this car a rebadged mondeo me included, after driving it on a test run i was blown away nothing mondeo bout this car. 2.0 diesel engine giving an average of around 45 mpg. People say diesels are boring not this one, more horses under the bonnet than the passat i drove previous, amazing!Aug 01, 2008
