This is my daily driver. We have owned this car since July 2002. It was purchased brand new fully loaded with the winter package. The car has a timeless look and has aged well. It still looks nice (I dare say BETTER) when parked among newer cars.May 10, 2014

Great small car. In my opinion it was the smallest and best luxury 4cyl car sold in the US in 2002. In the 12 years of ownership it has been very reliable and has never let me down or on the side of the road.May 09, 2014

The S40 is a great compact executive sedan to buy used. New, they were overpriced compared to the competition, but they are a reliable second-hand buy. The interior in mine is well-appointed with leather, heated seats, automatic climate control, and a power sliding/tilt sunroof. For an entry-level vehicle, the power is decent from the 2.0 (badged as 1.9) turbo engine. I don't prefer the automatic transmission (the only option in the US market), but it shifts smoothly enough. DSC (dynamic stability control) and a winter shift mode are featured. Stock audio is all right, with an AM/FM stereo w/ cassette and CD player. Could use an upgrade. Fuel economy is excellent. I average 26.6 mpg in stop-and-go city traffic which includes crossing a large hill. I think the car's looks are great; the taillights seem a bit high but overall the styling is sharp and conservative.Mar 28, 2013

I purchased the car used, but after a year with the car, I've had to do a lot of work on it to keep it going. There is a lot of preventative maintenance needed as well with parts under the hood that needed lots of attention.Jan 03, 2013

Pros: Surprisingly peppy for a tiny engine, good fuel economy, very strong braking, good cornering. Fun to drive, comfortable even for relatively long journeys, several clever touches, excellent use of space. Larger than expected carrying volume (interior and trunk). Infrequently needs maintenance or service.
Cons: Turning radius is a little large for a car its size. Power is as expected and wimpy above 45 mph or so. Several of the controls are not laid out properly, and maintenance costs are high when service is required.Oct 26, 2010

Min karls bil, men jag får ju faktiskt köra den då och då :D Den går ju lite bätter än min 244, MEN! Jag har större motor i min bil :D Detta är ju bara en 2.0T. Den är tyvärr lite för bränsletörstig just nu, men vi tror det är fel påluftmängdsmätaren.Jun 14, 2009

My first car was a volvo 240 and the S40 reminds me so much of the 240 but more modern of course. Steering is the best with a tight turning circle. My favourite part of the S40 is the front seats - perfect. I note that the new ford falcon has similar seats including the head rests (piss off ford!)May 31, 2008

this has been my daily driver for just under two years and i have only one problem they dont sell 5spd trans in the states. Other then that this has been a great car. With a avarage 42 miles to the gallon on the hwy way and spending less then 1000.00 a year on manting it hard to bet.Apr 29, 2008

I bought this car used as a commuter car when gas got above $3.00/gal about a year ago. Driving 90 miles a day, I find this car comfortable and fun to drive. The turbo gives enough power to get into traffic when you need it. The only complaints I have is the radio is a bit weak and headroom for people above 6 feet tall.Jan 19, 2008

Great family car.Easy to drive and very comfy.Slow from a standing start but from 3000 rpm up just goes and goes.Handles well and brakes are nice and responsive.Cant fault this car and would recommend anyone in the market for a family to go look at the new one.Jan 07, 2008
