2001 Pontiac Grand Am Reviews, Pricing & Specs

It's a good first-driver's car. Has a decent stereo for my music. GM should take better care of their engines though because it took some work to fix it up. Cost my parents an extra $3,000! That wasn't fun. But it drives fine now. I would just check the engines of these things before anyone decides to buy one.

In the performance department, the Grand Am is fair. It's acceleration is enough to make the drive exciting. Braking is less than ideal due to poor caliper design. That can be remedied with small but efficient part upgrades. Handling is somewhat sluggish for the car's size and weight, but again aftermarket provides a noticeable improvement in this area. The build quality for these cars is exceptional because of its perceived market. While in production it took a large portion of the midsized market. To accomplish this it needed to last. The appearance of the vehicle varies through the models, with the GT model being the sleekest. With some small modifications it can be a very smooth sleek looking vehicle. As far as cost of ownership goes, there are a few maintenance issues that these cars seem to need on a regular basis. However once properly attended to, the car performs well. These cars are fun to drive, simple to work on, and they have a larger fan base than publicly known.

Nothing bad to say about this car. I've only owned Grand Ams, and have been very pleased with the performance, reliability and sporty look of them. You must go for the V6 engine if you want .to leave everyone else in the dust (even on hills!) I've had very little trouble with my current car, which I've owned for eight years. It has over 140,000 miles on it, and aside from some expected repairs over that time (new battery, wheel bearing, catalytic converter), this car has cost me less in repairs than any other vehicle I've owned thus far. I love the sunroof, and the powerful stereo system also! Have never been disappointed with a Grand Am yet!

This car picks up quicker than any other similar car I've driven. Breaking is outstanding and it hasn't given me any issues with handling. This car only needed an O2 sensor that was damaged by a previous owner. I've obviously done some work to the outside (i.e. - projector headlights & cowl induction hood.) Gas mileage on this car is great even with running air conditioning if you drive it right. The only maintenance this car requires is standard for any car (i.e. oil change, breaks.) This car has all in all been a joy to drive.

It is a blue Pontiac Grand Am SE from the year 2001. For the age, it is a great car... I like it a lot, the performance is incredible, and it looks very nice. It has an aftermarket hood and bumper.

I love how it has held up, very good quality. I haven't had any problems with it so far. Bought it used with over 100 thousand miles, mostly highway miles. It's fun to drive, has a sleek look even though it is 7 years old. Very popular and a lot of people have them. Overall I love my car! Not as much as I will love my '61 Corvette someday though...

I've owned two. First one was a silver 01 SE coupe 2.4L. Ran well and lasted me 6years and is still running but I sold it to buy another Grand Am. I bought it used and put over 100k on it. It started having small problems here and there like any other car after high mileage and old age. I maintained it well, I got my moneys worth out of it and it was/still is a great car. The one I drive now is an 01 jet black GT1 Coupe, 75th anniversary edition. I got it for an amazing deal and its in great shape with low miles. Its twice as sharp. The package you get makes a good difference. After owning both theres not question I like the 3.4L better. Has great power and still gets great mpg. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY CAR!!

I basically despise the car. It looked pretty nice when I bought it, and feels sporty enough if you haven't driven much, but overall the craftsmanship is comletely shoddy, and pieces are constantly breaking, falling off, or failing. It's good enough as a Point A - To - Point B car, but being a car geek it certainly isn't my first choice anymore.

Owned the car for over two years it is one of my daily drivers and will always be there as a great mode of transportation.

this is no regular grand am. I love my Grand Am GT. it lowered 2". racing seats. flame paint, wing, 17" wheels. cross drilled rotors all around. side exiting exhaust. no mufflers. I love driving this car. it handles great , lotsa get up & go

I didnt have this car for very long but the time i did i loved it. the interior of it was kick asss. and she was quick for a midsize car. but overall was a great car and thats about it

I love my car! Its amazing. It gets great gas mileage. Its got a good sound system in it. Brand new tires. It wasn't to expensive. My car drives amazingly, no squeaks or rattles, but a few scratches and dents from door dings...who cant make sure that their door don't hit another....DUH!!

dont get me wrong i love the car but like most american made cars it falls apart around 100000 miles

I think that this car is solid. I enjoyed it while I had it. The 2.4l DOHC I4 is solid and runs well. However, the interior build quality is terrible. It is cheap and reminds me of motel quality carpet. It is obvious that the majority of the build cost was put into the drivetrain. Even though it is FWD, it is still possible to wrech and do your own repairs. You just have to be more careful and have a variety of tools.

its an inexpensive reliable yet sporty car with good gas mileage and is easy to customize and give that unique look a lot of people desire anymore. all in all i think its really nice for a first car or for someone looking to have a decent ride and stay in budget.

Fun Car, can be Pricey to fix. like the 4 disc breaks. Handles great. love the leather wishes it had the heated seats. you take care of your car it will take of you. To bad Pontiac is no longer be made!

I had a few problems with car after purchasing in 2003. My computer went out 2 times before it was finally replaced and properly programed. Apparently, there was a recall on the computers and they were to be reprogramed. My first mechanic was oblivious but the second fixed it. Both were certified GM and Pontiac mechanics too. Once the problems were fixed, it has been a wonderful car. Things tend to break off and stop working. Other than that, it is a great car, sporty and smooth riding!
