2001 Nissan Sentra Reviews, Pricing & Specs

mine is 2001 sentra se with 2.0 sr20de motor. what can i say, the sr20 is one of the best 4 cylinder motor out there. i bought mine with 94k miles 2 years ago. now has 154k miles on it.no problem so far except for regular oil change, tires and brakes. and, i always drive it like i stole it. handles great on twisty mountain, redline to almost 7k also feels fun. i know the engine will outlast the car's life.Mar 28, 2013

The Nissan Sentra has been in my family since it was new, and I can say it has been a good car. Although having a few normal repairs done on it (brakes, shocks, etc.) it has been pretty reliable. It has decent acceleration at low speeds, but is more slugish on the highway when passing. All in all a good driving experience although not very exciting. May 30, 2010

I just bought a 2001 Sentra GXE yesterday, figuring Nissan's reputation did not require a back round check. WRONG... I went to Car Survey. org, and found a multitude of problems with this car. Some very expensive repairs. Lot's of big nickle and dime stuff. I will sell this car fast as it is not a reliable vehicle in my opinion. Go figure, a Sentra was always in the top 3 of reliable vehicles for 25 years. Obviously not any longer. Jul 28, 2009

I can't dis my car to bad. It takes me were i want to go. But i have been having trouble with the motor a little ever since i had my oil changed and spark plugs. When it rains or if my car is off for a long time when i go to start it someimes it sputters and then dies out on me. Seems like its not getting fuel or power. I no nothing about cars so im scared to take it to a mechanic cause i no what will happen! They will no i no nothing and probably say theres more wrong with it then there really is. If anyone has any suggestions please drop me a line.Aug 08, 2008

Performance - For a 4-banger with an automatic, its pretty quick. Can get out of its own way getting onto the freeway. A/C on makes it a little more difficult, but not bad. Build Quality - I have 3 rattles/buzz'. 2 of them are reflections of the car's age (80K miles) but one has been around since the passenger window motor failed after a month of ownership. I think the dealer forgot to put in some foam between two pieces of metal. Only repairs that have been needed that were not recalls or under warranty/wear was the Mass Air Flow sensor. It failed at 79k miles. Appearance - Outside is utilitarian and unremarkable. Mine would look better if my ex would have washed it from time to time. The car is mine now as I have a longer commute and I don't have any payments. Cost of ownership - I average 28mpg with the A/C on. With it off, I average 35. If I am on the freeway, I get 30 with the A/C and 36 without. Fun Factor - I like the little car. It handles pretty decent and I know enough of how little cars like this drive to really push it to its limits. I have shocked more than one "performance car" by passing it on the outside of a 40mph curve, doing close to 65.Aug 06, 2008

Decent ride with some zip for its class, with a 2.0 under that little hood. Sick new Pioneer sound system with MTX subs powered by Profile, all installed by yours truly. Wonderful handling but you can't find any half decent tires in the '01 Sentra SE's size. Bottom line, Go for a Mazda3s if you're in this range. You can get many premium features not found in other compacts and still stay in the 20k area. Mazda3s's bang to buck ratio is amazing. See also Volkswagen Jetta and Chevrolet Cobalt. While we're on the subject of Nissans though, if your budget touches the range of the Altima SL, nothing else comes close.Jun 23, 2008
