Its a nice car but the check engine light has come on within a day of me having it going to have it looked at not sure what the issue could be it wasnt on when I pick the vehicle up.Feb 27, 2020

im not sure what I dislike.
it is excellent
everything about it is just fun.
Well, I guess it doesnt get great gas mileage
but this is an SUV and we dont expect it to be like a smaller engine. I love it in snow ridesMay 11, 2015

This is a Great little SUV. We call her, the "Bubble" I was going to sell it for a moment and then looking at her and thinking about how good these are in the snow and off road I couldn't part with her. We bought her sight unseen from St. Louis, flew over and drove her back to Arizona the next day without a problem. We don't know how the previous owner took care of her but she was in pretty decent shape and they were Fantastic people that still keep in touch ,she's in good hands now and we will keep her forever. Going to do a few mods here and there but nothing radical.
Low maintenance, decent gas mileage and comfortable for long halls, I'm 6'6. Great little SUV. They won't disappoint.Aug 16, 2014

Electrical is an ongoing problem. Granted it's 13 years old but less than 100k miles. Seems like some sensor or solenoid goes out every 2-3 months. Still has decent acceleration. Good but not great cargo space. Bad mileage like most SUVs.Jun 11, 2014

As my wife's vehicle (she liked having the MB star status) she was happy using the ML for everyday and we saddled it up for the kids on the weekends -- believe this one may have been made in Alabama or Mexico... would need AMG if ventured to MB again...May 14, 2014

Fun midsize SUV. Handles great and has plenty of get up and go. Third row seating is good for small people, lacks leg room. We spend a lot of time up in the snow and it performs great!

Overall, it is a good strong vehicle, I fell very safe in it and it has plenty of power.
You can't win all worlds so it is expansive to maintain but other then that just a fun vehicle to drive.Jan 29, 2014

Front bumper could have been sportier, and so could've been the exhaust note. What's weird is that the rear fender flares and bottom of the rear hatch, are fading but, nothing else on the body's paint is fading. Finding aftermarket upgrades/tuning upgrades, is not as easy as finding them for newer models. My driver seat is tearing and I am not fat but, then again, who knows if the previous owner was. The back seats and rest of the interior is exceptional.Sep 05, 2013

I have owned this since 2005 and have made continued improvements. It rides on 20" OZ rims made in Italy, has upgraded brakes, rotors, shocks, anti-roll bars and more. A hood scoop feeds an inter-cooler which increases horse power. This particular ML is fairly customized in relation to the standard version. Aug 19, 2013

I like the front look of the car. Also the sound system is very nice. The performance is amazing and feels very fast. Feels high up and in control. This was a weekend car. Should last forever. Amg made it very nice.Apr 14, 2013

I don't alike how dealership robs me, so I have a professional mechanic.i love the ability of being classy and still have the off stamina.i get complemented every where I go. Picture all black,cream interior,tinted windows,a 1200 watt amp and 2 kenwood 12's and 2 t.v's ( for the kids ) sitting on factory 17's from the ml430 with halo projector headlights......Awesome.....Feb 28, 2013

I am an original owner, and even thought there were a few issues with it in the first five years of ownership, it was all fixed under warranty, and it's been a great commute and family car.
We purchased another, smaller SUV, and kept this one as a third car, but we are not using it at all now, so we decided to let it go. It is a terrific car.Apr 17, 2012

the acceleration is not all that great it is a big car with only a V6. the breaks work
well but u have to get used to them, it also handles well and makes easy turns. it
has not needed any major repairs just annual maintenance, no squeaks or rattles. i
like the look of the interior...i would prefer to have another color that is darker on
the outside. gas is somewhat expensive...i drive to school 4 days a week and to
other places as well ans fill up every 1.5-2 weeks. the car has its moments of fun Jan 01, 2012

Great performance and reliable. Handles well in any weather. Extreme stability and always feel safe and comfortable while driving. Exterior has great body styling. The best midsized SUV I've driven. Only discomfort for me is where the cup holders are placed. Mar 06, 2011

The car's acceleration is very good from 10km/h until approximately 95km/h. The brakes are weak and fade very quickly. The car handles ok, but there is too much body roll in corners. The build quality is mediocre, the dashboard need frequent repairs: radio, airco. The exterior design was acceptable in 2001 but is now outdated. Especially the grey bumpers which fail to match the color of the car are an absolute turn off. The car is quite economic, and comfortable and quiet for long highway drives. May 01, 2010

Good looking SUV that handles well and feels almost like a new car even after 8 years of avg mileage driving. Solid engine, however, overall a bad decision to buy: poor fuel economy and requires top grade fuel, endless problems from cheap plastic fittings that disintegrate and fall from the interior to costly repairs arising from faulty sensors, electronic and mechanical failures. Performance-big car but great acceleration. very fast and stable in the right hands. good breaking distance.
the doors sometimes act funny its nothing major.
the car has good looks in and out but the leather seats feel slippery.
it is good on gas if you are not constantly accelerating to 100km/h in 5-6secs in city driving. service is done at the cost of a leg and a kidney.
overall, all at some point must get a chance to drive a car like this or better. Jan 14, 2010

battery dies quick. be prepared to have to carry cables to jump your car. not a lot of leg room and sort of tight. brakes nice nice controls and trunk space. keep a battery charger on hand or take one of the fuses out to keep the battery fullMay 02, 2009

It's fast as can be, smooth as can be, stable as can be. for christs sake, its a benz. 3.2 litre v6, K&N air intake, pirelli tires. Sits and Rides higher than the lexus counterpart. Amazing piece of machinery!Jan 18, 2009

Love the engine, 350 horse and 348 pound feet of torque, the thing is a rocket.
Handbuilt AMG V8, one of the wonders of the modern world. Combined with the
Benz AWD system this SUV is a force to be recond with, very few SUV's eat up
road like this thing does. I currently looking for a ML63 or a G55.

this car is the most solidly built car i hav ever driven. the gas mileage is averaging over 26 mpg. it accelerates and brakes great. it handles great especially on ice. the esp makes it so you can turn without slipping much even on theslickest of ice. the one con is when it needs repairs, they are usually expensive.Aug 26, 2008

At the time, this was what you wanted if you had a family and a dog and the vanity. It was a pig on gas. It drove very well (German engineering, jah!) The third row seats were a complete pain (Germans have 5 weeks holidays and I think that was when these seats were designed). They were a weird multi folding, clip, hook, get up in the truck on your hands and knees to wrestle alligators configuration - pain for a mother with two young children and friends to drive.
It was fun, but we were not sad to hand it back in at the end of the lease.Aug 01, 2008

Needed for the snow and was seriously impressed. We have decent snow tires and could get through some serious snow berms in Tahoe. Decent mileage for a big car yet only two inches longer than my BMW 5 series sedan. the 2001 was a bit underpowered (205 HP) but the new ones have 268 HP and look SO much better and drive better too.May 09, 2008

I love my ML. However, this model before 2006 is not so much of a reliable car. It has quite a bit of electronic issues. However, the overall driving, handling and performance is still one of the best car to drive. The ML made a break thought in reliability after 2006.Mar 15, 2008

Gorgeous looks and amazing sound system, but the build quality is not up to par, the handling is atrocious, fuel consumption is through the roof, and Mercedes thought they could hide behind the badge. It didnt work. Not a good all round car.Jan 11, 2008
