Hands down one of the best vehicles I've ever driven. Easy to see out all windows for backing and switching lanes. Lots of cargo space with back seats folding down flat. Sleep in it and view the stars while car camping. Tie cargo to the top or put a Yakima rack on it. Hauled a kayak on it frequently. Never used the tow but it looks like a nice package with the wiring inside the spare wheel space.Dec 14, 2014

Fun car to drive, good acceleration and braking. Not as sporty as the smaller sport version, but definitely more reliable. Roof rack very nice for strapping gear down. The fold down flat back seats make packing very easy and spare tire easy access.Dec 14, 2014

If you live in the mountains, in lots of snow or just need a super reliable vehicle, own a Subaru!!! It's commonly known that they last well over 300,000 miles and while the repairs can be expensive they are worth the investment for the future. They are not only super safe, really reliable, sporty and fun to drive, they are cars you can trust your teenager in as well as drive your newborn home knowing they may some day learn to drive that same vehicle. Performance is peppy for a heavy car. Brake response is strong and stopping
power is great. Handling is good, turn radius is what you'd expect from a car
that size. Build quality is good. Materials are nice, hold up well. I think the
styling is very nice. Cost of ownership is a little high. Parts aren't cheap and
there are some chronic parts of subaru's that aren't a matter of if but when
they will fail. Gas mileage isn't great but it is a heavy car with a 4 cylinder.
Fun factor is great. I enjoy that I can take the car almost anywhere. Im not
afraid to pull off the road anywhere or drive through a snow storm.May 09, 2013

NOTE 1998 2gen model
Not very fast, but nice engine noise from inside cabin (boxer)
nice brake feel even though assisted with plenty of stopping power
nice softish suspension and power steering, tends into understeer when pushed
a bit of an exhaust rattle but only when push at low revs in the gear
petrol consumption about rated 12.5l/100km should be 8-10
as a subie, maintainance will be expensive (boxer)
can be fun as it's alright for a bit of off-roading and doesn't mind being pushed a bit on tarmacMay 03, 2011

Good for snow country. Lots of space inside. Gas mileage is good, but
could be better for a 4 cylinder. Maintenance is tricky sometimes - find a
Subaru qualified mechanic. Keep an eye and ear on the front axles, the

Bought this car used in 2004. Guy i bought it from claimed that the motor was no good, but it ran and drove so i guessed it was fine. Purchased it for $300 and drove it home the same day. Then, once i drove it to work the next morning i noticed that it got slightly overheated. Drove it home, and checked Coolant level, checked Radiator Hose, but they were both fine. Took it to the dealer and they said it needed new Head Gaskets and new Water Pump. Paid $800 to get it fixed and i think it was worth it. Although the AWD Doesn't get used beacause i live in San Diego, it is still a nice car to own.Oct 12, 2010

Goes good in the snow, nice cargo area. The subaru has decent performance, good gas mileage. Room for five adults and a dog ( or two) Nice looks and decent affordability. Heated seats, cruise and heated side windows and heated windshiled wipers! COOL.Dec 29, 2009

the subaru is the best thing on the road, good gas, great get up and go, loads of cargo room, rides like a dream! Gets it in the snow too! Would not trade it for the world!

Lots of cargo space, great proformance, the intior styling and finish is excerlent, and very reliabale but have to keep regularty with service. great all wheel drive system and with extra ground clerance goes up most dirt tracks, can be a bit thirsty Sep 23, 2009

Sluggish, no turbo....gearing is all wrong 80 MPH 3500RPM. and now it has a power streering squeek. Also on the plus side they last forever! Cornering is the best i have had in a while...low gas mileage and looks are just okay....Sep 07, 2009

ran like a champ for 280,000 HARD miles. I rode it
hard and it took it and waited for more. Rallied it,
jumped it clear 5 feet high, spun it, almost flipped it,
drifted it. Awesome car! I hated to see her go, but I

Its too slow, and it runs too high of RPM's (65 mph is about 3000+)...it needs a six speed manual and a turbo. Head gaskets went at 125k but now they are fixed i am confident this car will go at least another 100k miles.Jul 10, 2009

The handling is great, and it is sturdy. That's all you really need for a car. I have only needed one repair for the brakes. Considering its getting old, that's pretty good. I'm not really sure about the gas mileage because this is the only car I've ever had.Jun 06, 2009

It can go most places, it is relativly fun to drive, for a big car, although it can feel like the rear-end is trying to bounce off the road at higher speeds and over a straight bump the front end will lift slightly.

A good daily driver. Easy to drive conservatively, and good on gas, with an 18 gallon tank, it gives you quite a range. The automatic transmission is a bit slugish, but you can manually shift with 1,2,3 and D on the stick. Hold the road extremely well, and can drive quick around the corners if you push it. Only problem I've had with it was a leak from the sun roof, but was repaired in an afternoon.Apr 21, 2009

This car, purchased new, has required nothing more than regular maintenance during the last eight years. While the 4 cylinder is underpowered, it is reliable and handles well in snow and ice. With the optional pet gate, it is the ideal way to transport my two dogs to the park.Jan 06, 2009

Was a great car, had excelent ground clearance for a 4 door sedan (over 7 inches). The leather heated seats were nice. I never once had any issue with it. There were no rattles or squeaks in it. The transmission shifted funny and the 4 cylinder lacked real power, but I would get another one if I had the oportunity.Oct 24, 2008

Good overall utility vehicle. AWD to move through
snow and mud, has lots of room for people and it can
hold much in the rear, especially if the seats are put
down. Sort of like a small truck with a camper shell,
but more utilitarian. Not a looker, but it is not
intended to pick up women! 200K miles and still
going, although I think i need a clutch now. 150 hp,
heavy car, so it is not fast or powerful, but gets the

Imagine a car with a multiple personality. This car is fast, it has a flat four boxer engine, giving it lots of torque and a great sound. It's spacious and comfortable. It's got all the toys - it even has heated wiper blades. The handling is very good for a wagon - four wheel drive and decent clearance means you can go where no man (in a wagon) has gone before. It's a Subaru, with legendary reliability.
I've had this car for about a year and a half. It's got 106,000 miles and I'm expecting it to hit 200,000 before an uneconomic component failure. Oh - and it's not a volvo.Jul 25, 2008

The exterior is hideous, the interior of the Limited is pretty nice for it's price range. Little things don't work here and there, but they're generally cosmetic issues (non-essential parts of the seat belts fall off) and some more annoying (the CD player has never worked well). I feel that if I live in a climate with heavy snow, I'll likely always have a Subaru on hand because they make it through anything I've ever tried to put it through.Jul 08, 2008

Luxery interier that has everything except a heated stering wheel. I rolled this car and flipped it back on the wheels and drove it home. i have a 120,000 miles on it and it still runs great. Only one major repair, getting the transmission replaced. It definitely has it quirks but they are manageable. The only problems now are caused by use, not by manufacture. it hugs the road and, for a four cylinder, hauls some ass and knows how to put the power to the pavement. When i need a new car, Subaru will be at the top of my list (even though my current Subaru will surely last forever).Jun 26, 2008
