2000 Ford Crown Victoria Reviews, Pricing & Specs

I didnt mind this car. It was cheap to buy, cheap to maintain and there have not been many problems with this vehicle. Recently went through and rebuilt the entire front end of the vehicle including all rear end suspension parts and the total came to somewhere around 700 dollars including a new steering box. Cant complain, its at 210K right now and still runs like when i bought it with 120K on it. Very reliable car.May 08, 2015

Alright, when talking about an old Interceptor, there is much to discuss. But as this is about specifics, I'll try to be concise. Performance wise, this car is adequate for nearly everything. 250hp or so means that the car is not slow, but 4200lbs means that it is not amazingly quick either. Acceleration wise, you're looking at about the same 0-60s as a V6 Mustang. Brakes (discs all round) work just fine, as long as you make sure you've got enough brake fluid, and even if you don't have ABS they stop in about as much time as you'd expect for a car of it's size. The CVPI is over 17 feet long, and most of the time it doesn't let you forget that. Around certain bends, however, it can feel like a smaller car, and doesn't object to being thrown around a bit. At over 9 years old, mine has developed the characteristic Ford Squeak, but that's only noticeable over bumps when the stereo is off. Rattling is at a minimum, essentially nonexistent. From the outside it looks mean, scary, etc. From the inside, spacious but a bit spartan. Plastic abounds, with vinyl floors, vinyl dash, vinyl back seats. The P71 has bucket seats, unlike your standard Crown Vic, which means that with the column-mounted shifter, an aftermarket centre console is a good buy. While it may be a cheap car to buy, the running costs are not quite so stellar, with a 19 gallon tank that empties after not much more than 300 miles of steady highway driving. It doesn't break down much, and if it does, parts are plentiful and cheap and quick repairs are easily done on your own. Fun is a more difficult question. Driving itself is not hugely exciting, as what it is is a slightly tuned huge American retiree-mobile. It's fast but not quick, safe, solid, but a bit wallowy round the corners. Most of the enjoyment stems from the scared looks of people you pass, the fact that everyone gets out of your way, and that you can do pretty much whatever the hell you want and people won't use their horn. This is a great car. It's not as powerful as my first car, but it holds its own. It has the "Police Interceptor P71 4.6 V8", which is pretty good performance but still no Mustang. Don't get me wrong, it'll haul like nobody's business. It''s very good build quality. Strong. Built Ford tough. This car has a very sinister look with the black on black (ignore the pink tree in the background) and it's respectable. The cost of ownership is very cheap if you don't consider the mileage (which would probably be better if I didn't appreciate the V8 under the hood) It's a fun car to drive with accurate, responsive handling.Jun 05, 2009

We own a 2000 Crown Victoria P-71 Police Interceptor Special it has plenty of torque handles well no matter what we throw at it provides us reasonable gas mileage considering it is a 4 Liter V-8, it is made to stand up to the daily sometimes 24 hour operation requirement of some police departments so it is very dependable, it is definitely fun to drive not only because of acceleration but for some reason :) people have a tendency to move over when we are driving the only down side is that some people have a tendency to slam on there brakes when we are behind them. my father liked our car so much that he bought a 2006 P-71 and has been very happy with his choice of primary vehicle Apr 28, 2009

2000 Ford Crown Victoria P71 Interceptor: JUSTICE This car is backbone of the justice system. And for good reason. I acquired this car from the New Hampshire State Police. The Interceptor almost drives itself. It likes to go slow down hill and fast on the straights. Quite fast off the line, and very fast from 40-80 mph. This car corners unlike any car I've had the privilege of piloting. Close to zero body roll, incredibly stable through corners. With posi-trac, air bags, the long hood, and the roll cage tucked away in the posts, it's probably the safest car you could ever drive. The P71is also very intimidating. It's subtle profile can lurk in the shadows or suddenly reveal itself in your rearveiw mirror. It's quite clear why law enforcement agencies all over the world employ this brilliantly designed unmodified stock machine. I tip my hat to you Ford. Well done.Dec 20, 2008

2000 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor 4.6L (281 CI) SOHC EFI V8, 3.55 Rear-end Axle Ratio(RAR), Aluminum Driveshaft, Transmission programmed to shift harder and faster, Engine programmed to idle higher to power all Police equipment, Heavy Duty Alternator, Optional lifetime rated Silicone radiator hoses, Suspension reinforced, V-Rated Tires (150MPH), Rear windows and Doors inoperable from inside the rear of the car, Dual Unity Spotlights, Setina Pushbar. Car lasts and lasts. Can't compare a Ford SOHC V8 to a Chevy Pushrod V8 though. Engine is underpowered for a Police Interceptor. 200HP and 280lb-ft. the rear end helps make up for the power deficit. and the tranny shifts so hard the belt slips and squeaks. if you want to fix it, get a serpentine belt. Spartan interior. AM/FM radio with 4 presets. cloth interior. has a three on the tree style shifter. car has an overdrive feature for fourth gear. makes it hard shift and do stunts. (please follow and abide all rules of the road.) Repairs are few. simple maintenance. mainly change oil at proper intervals. Maintenance is few, cheap; Gas mileage on a 2000 is ~13-14MPG. 2001 are ~20+MPG fun- speedy but can get outrun by a 05+ V6 Stang till approximately 70MPH, would reccomend to a friend that needs a large trunk and usuually drives people around but get ready to spend ~$90 a tank in SoCal and last less than 250 miles.Jul 06, 2008

Used to have a police car. Performance is good but it's not a sports car. It blends in with the crowd, unless it's an old police model, it never breaks down, and averages about 17 mpg around town. My grandma's 20yr old front drive Chrysler was more fun in the corners, but the Crown Vic can at least break the tires loose. Only things fun about it are the spotlight and the fact that it is rwd, other than that it is about as fun as a Camry.Apr 22, 2008

If i had to describe this car in one word it is this, BIG. This car is more than capable of having 5 adults in it and has around 22 cubic feet of trunk space. This car came originally with a stock 4.6 liter V8 but ive added a cold air intake, 80mm MAF, PI Intake Manifold, removed the speed limiter, upgraded the handling and suspension, and the transmission has been tuned.Jan 13, 2008
