ive had my car for about 2 years and ive only had minor problems for the most part except for recently my I cant get spark and cant get to the bottom of it,, but everything prior to this has been fairly simple and cheap. the hardest fix was probably replacing the water pump.. that wasn't easy but other than that as long as you check up on the oil and radiator and normal maintenance you shouldn't have much problem at all. ive only gotten complements on it.. Even without a turbo, its pretty fun to drive. The naturally aspirated Chrysler engine actually has a little pep to it. Its great to commute to work or cruise around with a friend or a girlfriend. but anymore than that, your friends will have to be legless. as far as reliability goes, its a fairly reliable car. Even if it does break, its dirt cheap to fix. As for MPG, I have seen as high as 30 using premium gas.
Things to look out for on this car...... Synchros in the manual trans can start grinding at higher mileage especially if it has never been maintained. Cam sensors are known to fail causing stalling or a no start. Also, the headgaskets were prone to leaking on the back corner near cylinder 4. but due to the age of these cars, most likely it has been taken care of by now. aside from that, its just the usual wear and tear.

acceleration sucked but the braking and handling were awesome
this car needed more repairs than it was worth
the exterior was pretty nice and it was sporty looking, the interior needed some work
even though it was a 4 cyl. it wasn't the best on gas, and it was always needing repairs

Great car! I would recommend it. I had a lot of mods on it. Neuspeed sway and
strut bars, AEM long body cold air intake, Adjustable gas shocks (handled like a

I'ts all wheel drive and turbo charged. Whats not to like? As long as I keep my foot out of it it averages 20-25 mpg. Not really desinged to transport more than two people. And its pretty easy to work on.Jul 03, 2011

Great car if you are a grease monkey and like the feeling of walking all over ricers. Has great acceleration and power. Can break any speed limit in 3rd. Have to have good knowledge about the mechanical workings of this car in order to keep it running to it's full potental.Jul 01, 2010

car was really nice for a 98. awd was great in winter and took anything off the line. stock wise the car had great response, but also had boost drop towards redline. with few mods and money you can unleash alot of hidden power. crankwallk where a big problem with these model DSM, BUT i never experienced crankwalk with both my dsms. timing belt, water pump and oil pump are highly recommened to be done every 60K miles. Acceleration is great compared to cars weight, braking is good, handles like a champ
No major repairs needed yet but soon, rattles when cold inside
Looks great outside, real leather inside

It was fast, lost one race out of many. Needed a lot of repairs but even if I sell it, I'd get one again. Suspension isn't good either but handling is good. Exterior looks great but interior is cramped for more than two people.Nov 09, 2009

The cars alright. It has a lot of potential and mitsubishi engines are really reliable. The clutch is really nice on this car and I'd recommend throwing a short shifter in it. Its kind of on the small side, you can put two people in the back but not comfortably. The engine bay is set up real simple too, perfect if you're looking to do work to it. I like driving it and the car moves if you want it too. Its actually really good on gas and overall fun to drive.Sep 02, 2009

great car to drive and own only normal wear and tear to maintain drinks alot of petrol but what american car doesnt lol.
lots of tuning potential as its an evo III engine 4g63t but 7bolt can be prone to crankwalk 95-96 models more then 97-99. amazing car and turns sooo many heads even next to ferrari's only 1 of 9 eclipse's in the u.k!Jan 16, 2009

well the last owner didnt take care of it so i just
dropped a new motor into it so not many problems
with it. It sucks on gas in the city but thats what you
have to live with when your running 35+ psi of boost!!

This was the first car I had, so I don't remember too much about it. It was a 5-speed manual, acceleration was pretty decent I guess... can't really remember. I never had to make any repairs on it though, except for the clutch, which every car eventually needs. The reason I no longer have it is because some lady ran a red light and hit me...Jul 26, 2008

The Good: Car is fast as hell and fun to drive. Beautiful looking car. Some say is looks like an angry badger. Leather interior in the higher end trims.
The Bad: Maintenance is high if you drive it hard. But it is always worth it in the end. Gas mileage isn't the greatest. And the more you modify, the worse it gets. Sometimes, it can be a real piece...
Recommendation: Not for someone who doesn't enjoy spending some quality time under a car.Jul 13, 2008
