I had 1998 and 2001 Cobras. The 1997 is basically the same as the 1998 I had. 4.6 L V8, 32-valve DOHC EFI 1997 Horsepower: 305 hp 300 lbs ft. 0 to 60 just under 6 seconds depending on the driver and track conditions of course 5.5 to 5.9 seconds. The car is capable of going over 150 MPH, Understand that I dont recommend that. Lots of people mod the car with under-drive pulleys, K&N air filter ( yes it odes make a slight difference in power, gas mileage, and throttle response) and a cool air flow sound. Also higher gear ratios such as 3.73, 4.10, etc. are common and really give the car an extra kick in the seat of the pants! A tuner ( about 400.00) can adjust the speedometer and let you custom tune for more power.Apr 25, 2020

Love at first sight is a real thing I found out today when I took what is now my 97 cobra svt on a test drive. I drove it out of the lot and just drove easy and it was very comfortable then I said im gonna floor it and pushed the petal down at 2500rpm in second and well coming from a 91 1.6 Miata to a 4.6 liter beast it was amazing honestly it pulls and doesn't stop past 100. Like the way it looks to if your looking into mabey buying one and are reading this stop reading reviews and go test drive one on craigslist and you will never regret it!!!!!!!!!! 9.5/10May 30, 2014

1997 cobra ..great little car... good power handling and speed,, has a Euro look unlike 2005 and up mustangs that is more inline with the 67 fastback model. I would have made this car a 2 seater with a window hatch like a Corvette, also would have dropped a 6 speed in it .Sep 21, 2013

Performance - acceleration, braking and handling. Its got it all! Build Quality - squeaks and rattles come with age, these cars are over 13 years old after all. Appearance - Looks good but could be improved. Fun Factor - This car fun to drive! Swap the ring & pinion for a 4.10 setup and the smile will never leave your face.Jul 05, 2010

it is a good car to drive but if you turn it in to a race car, then it becomes the greatest car to drive. but they is always going to be problems with it cause you are modifying it. it will be come a fun car to drive at the track.Apr 30, 2010

The closest thing to the muscle cars of the past. Great overall car. Super reliable, fun to drive, and looks great doing it. Capable of a LOT of horsepower and torque... just throw some boost at it. Currently it needs a little tlc and a rebuild soon but has not missed a beat!Mar 03, 2010

Love the car, plenty fast and handles great! only thing it could use is a sneaky peet, cold air intake and a super charger, gas is kinda spendy tho, high octain fuel only, never e85 although it'l do it, it runs terrible on it.Dec 17, 2009

I am the third owner of this car since new and bought it from a former employee of Excessive Motorsport with about 103,000 miles on it. It is a true 1997 SVT Cobra Coupe and had many upgrades done to it by Excessive Motorsport including headers, O/R X-Pipe and catless exhaust. I have two dyno sheets from EM with one showing 392rwhp (guy said something went wrong) and one showing 402rwhp. The build quality is what you would expect from a 90's Ford. Performance is very high. The car pulls hard and can go a little over 115 in 3rd gear. the suspension is very stiff and the brakes work VERY well. Its not the best set of wheels in the world but its a helluva ride for the 6 grand i payed for it. Jun 29, 2009

Love the way it drives, and how it handles. Of course it's not the fastest out there but it has power to play around with. Only thing bad is how it creaks when it hits bumps, and the exhaust has a rattle to it. I don't really don't care what GM fanatics say, because the only thing that matters is what I think.Jun 24, 2009

All that I have done to it do far is exhaust from the headers to dual Cherry Bomb mufflers with 3.5" Flowmaster tips....But I am about to drop about $15K into the entire car! great car and can handle some horsepower. lots of different options. performence is great quatermile in about 9 sec costed 23,000 new and spent about 50,000 on mods. so much fun to drive just the sound of the engine is enough to buy this carJan 14, 2009

My dislikes is the interior. I need to do a redo of it, as the car has 130,000 miles on it. Overall, the car is a great car. It gets great gas mileage, is pretty dang fast, and it is a lot of fun!! I bought this car about a month ago and haven't regretted buying it for a second. This car, tweaked by SVT (Speical Vehicle Team) is a drivers car. It's performance limits are set very high, yet the car can be driven daily without an issue with comfort. The engine, which is hand built by SVT, is a smooth running, high revving, 32 valve V8. This engine rockets this car to 60 mph in under 6 seconds. Its awesome It is fast and all the wrok that has been done to it has been done by me and my friends. i have owned the car for 2 years and absoutly love it! with a off-road x-pipe and magna pack mufflers it sounds amazing! you need a short throw shifter bc the stock one is too "rubbery" i get looks where ever i go and with 305 hp its pretty quick!Feb 13, 2008
