1997 Chrysler Sebring Reviews, Pricing & Specs

What owners say
"Overall, owners of the 1997 Chrysler Sebring have mixed feelings about their cars. Many appreciate the stylish design, comfortable interior, and fun driving experience, especially with the top down on convertibles. However, there are frequent complaints about reliability, with several owners noting significant mechanical issues and poor engine performance. The fuel economy also fell short of expectations for many, which detracted from the overall enjoyment."
The 1997 Chrysler Sebring JXi is an attractive cruiser with a comfortable and well-appointed interior, but a lackluster engine, disappointing brakes and sloppy handling mar it's overall appeal. Comfortable also applies to the ride, though there is a tradeoff in poor handling at higher speeds. Brakes were spongy underfoot and pedal feel did not inspire confidence-stopping power was marginal at best. The uplevel V6 engine (up from a 2.4 liter inline four cylinder) was underwhelming in it's power delivery, although the optional Autostick might have mitigated any qualms with acceleration-power delivery was smooth at least, and the four speed electronically-controlled automatic shifted smoothly as well. Fuel economy was disappointing for such a small-bore V6, the 1997 Plymouth Voyager SE with the 3.0 liter V6 and three-speed auto that I owned while I owned this got better mileage on the freeway cycle. As long as you're not expecting to carve any canyons, and plan to just use it for it's intended purpose-looking good and comfortable cruising-you'll find much to like here.
July 28, 2011these older sebring are the best they made. such an incredible improvement finally over the old k car body. the handling is way above what you would expect. a more powerful V6 engine besides the 2.7 would have been great.
November 23, 2009This car has got a beautiful style and a wonderful stereo. The seats are comfortable and made of leather. The only small problem are the huge consumption of fuel and the lack in accelleration. The size are impressive and thanks to this the luggage van is huge.

June 9, 2009Good for driving arround town, but try to avoid going onto step drives as it sets really low to the ground. Pretty good on gas mileage if you keep your foot out of the pedal. Not really any back seat so dont carry to many people.
September 2, 2009handles well, acceleration is average, looks great, fun to drive
April 23, 2008Other than the fact that it's a 97' with 130,000 miles, it's been a very reliable car.
January 6, 2008Have owned for 7 years! If gas prices continue to skyrocket, though, my next car is a hybrid. Otherwise, my next car is also likely to be a convertible (most likely a Toyota Solara, though). This is a good car if you want a convertible at a decent price, though if you get it pre-owned like I did, be prepared to spend $$$ following the maintenance schedule to the letter.
June 27, 2008This was a fun car to work on a lot of styling options on a car not usually modified.
May 19, 2008I think this car was pretty nice. I never had any problems that I can remember...except for ones I created myself...like accidentally hitting the curb and blowing out a tire. :)
April 10, 2008I only have driven it a couple of times and i love it.It runs great.
