this one was a 1.4 litre 8 valve, so rather uninspiring, a phase 1 (pre facelift) so not as pretty as the GSi or the phase 2's, and as a merit was very low spec. As a basic "get me around" car it is fine - build quality sufficient, cost of ownership is cheap as chips to buy, insure, run and maintain, performance on this engine is weak but sufficient for everyday errands, but fun factor notably absent, although it is a capable little car with superior handling qualities, always safe and with sufficient feedback and grip. Plus points - they are FANTASTIC in snow! That's what really hooked me onto astras - the handling is great.Jan 10, 2010

Whilst i have owned it, i have fitted had a new Head Gasket, Head Thermostat, Rad Thermostat, Inlet and Exhaust Gaskets, Downpipe Gasket, New Air Filter Box, New Battery, Alternater and Alt. Belt.
Roomy, solid, and economical car which lacks a bit in performance.
For a small 1.4 this car's performance is not that bad, and it does have a slightly sporty feel to it while it's being driven.
Handling is moderate.
Performance is good once you get above 3,000rpm. Under that it can seem slow.Feb 27, 2009

1994 Vauxhall Astra 1.8 16v Sport. Finished in gorgeous Pineapple Yellow! Pulls like a train yet is excellent on fuel. The build quality is surprisingly good for a mass produced car and unlike many other Astras of this age, it has no rot. It's cheap to run and insure and being pretty swift, it's great fun to drive!Dec 31, 2008

Bought this car for £500 with 116k on the clock, since having it i upsized the wheels to 15", put rear lexus lights on, changed the front indicators and side repeaters to clear, and have put an induction kit on. The engine is only a little 1.4 litre, but has done me well, with now 135k on the clock i had the head gasket and timing belt changed (just incase). I enjoy driving my car and if i was to get another car i would have to keep this one tooJun 29, 2008

1.6ltr lx Bought as a cheap runabout, low running costs, and good build quality, no power steering, 3 door looked awful, good size boot. Performance slow for 1.6. Handling not great. Got from a-b ok.Jun 27, 2008

Was a comfy car but diesel so performace was not brilliant. Also had been used as a company car rep before and someone had messed about with the engine. Managed to get it through an MOT then got rid of it quick before it cost me more moneyMar 18, 2008

well where to start, was a 1994 Astra mk3 1.4 multi point injection 16v GSI in carmine red, very nice car for its age, was very good on fuel did about 40mpg around town and between 30mpg to 46 on a run depending on how much i pushed it.
0-60 i would say around the 9 secs. top speed i have almost had 130mph on it check my bebo for speed video.its in my vids somewhere.

My first car, affectionately called "the shed" - was going to gt rid but after some dizzy cow ran into the back of me, i had a change of heart (her car was a write off, the shed escaped with a cracked bumper), so she'll be staying around for a while....nothing much to tell really, boring in every wayDec 19, 2007
