Its kind of funny, imho, I felt that the 94 Excel was when they finally got it right. Everything before 94 was, well, garbage. The 94 was awesome even though the line got replaced by the Accent which I didnt like at all. But yeah, only failed me because I failed it - the day before I was supposed to take it in, threw a rod, and that was that - my fault for waiting too long. It was a comfortable ride, was a bit zippy and could chew through tires, lol. Admittedly, I preferred the 2001 Chevy Blazer LT that I got after the engine tanked - but damn, there is no love lost for the 94 Excel and all the travels taken in this awesome economical vehicle.Dec 21, 2023

I bought this car off of my mothers family for 8 bills (800 bucks). it was in somewhat rough condition but it ran. I should have turned away because it needed alot more work than i thought. It was a low mileage car (50k) but i was not expecting to have to redo my entire brake system ($350) and then have my timing belt replaced the following week due to it snapping( another $350). This was all after i put 150 on tires because it had 2 bald tires in the front. Luckily the family decided to help me with the repair costs and pay 500 bucks. The radio has issues with the wiring and needs to be completely redone ( not wanting to put 200 into this). But after i got all these things fixed she runs pretty good. I did a full tune up and ran a can of seafoam to dissolve any carbon deposit and did an oil change. The head gasket and motor block are in bad shape and i will need a new car in about a year or 2. (gasket leaks into cylinder chamber and i cannot change or repair it because the idiot that owned it prior to my moms family beat the hell out of it and the motor block cracked. Right now it runs fine but i have to put coolant in every 3-4 days. It does not overheat but has a leak so that it blows a small amount of white smoke on startup. Overall if I had a chance to buy something else i would have, Its not a bad car but I know now to really look for the little things when buying any used car, Don't drive it for 30 minutes say it runs and buy it. It gets me form point a-b around town but I say stay away from older hyundai cars. Most of them in 1986-1994 were abysmal and the 1995-2000 were very slightly improved.but still suckedJun 29, 2013

The car is really dependable, it will get you were you need to go but it's
not a fun car to drive since it has virtually no power whatsoever. At least
it's cheap on gas but the lack of air bags is
a downer. Jun 21, 2011

I just purchased this car with a bad engine. Dodge Stealth also has the ECI Multi motor, so i'm going to by a junkyard motor. Supposed to be a tough car, and it looks cool, and i know Hyundai's are tough cars.Oct 11, 2010

Great for a little city car, very cheap to run and low maintenance.
Not the strongest build as it gets dented easily, though will run off the smell of an oily rag.
It's far from a muscle car but fantastic if you just want something to get you from A to B.Jul 27, 2009

Although the brakes are a little worn by now, this is the car of many peoples dreams. She can go 300km's on half a tank, and beat most cars in a race, extremely fun with great handling and surprising space inside.
Would recomend this to anyone that would treat it well.Jan 14, 2009

Oct 15, 2008

I owned my Excel (Auto) in early 2007, Great Mileage, Good performance from auto transmission. I serviced it myself easy as cake. Had to replace Alternator took 15mins. Easiest car to work on. My friend who owns an S14 Sylvia it impressed with how this went. Good fun, great value.Sep 11, 2008

there was a time when i had major customization plans for my car,ive learned that when i drive it hard on a regular basis ,it needs work done to it on a more regular basis.still is a great car for me,cranking stereo, strong brake calipers, although the clutch has given me persistent problems, the engine has got balls, shame about the drive train thou, most recent problem ,is a fan belt issue that makes squeaking sound when i put the steering under pressure(lock to lock) when its reasonably cold,or after start up.Aug 17, 2008

i got caught driving this car with plates registered to an astro van and got 5 tickets only 2 went through
the car smelled kinda funny when i first got it and was very dirty but i only paid 200 for it and it came with brand new tires but i learned to drive standard on it and so did some of my friendsAug 09, 2008

My first car being an excel is a pretty sensible car with average mileage (270kms - mostly highway) average performance with acceleration (it has an LPG tank in the back weighing it down) a little below other excels but good breaking as my dad and my self have replaced the break pads, the oil and filter, a general service been performed and new front tires. It looks pretty average as it has been the victim of an egging (before i owned it) which destroyed some paint on the right side. also some armatureish paint work on the bonnet looks off but in the right light she shines up pretty nice. The interior had custom seat and floor covers, CD player which is soon to be all new with amp an sub and working air conditioning. Its fairly cheap to run around $60ish per tank lasting around 2 weeks depending. A cannon muffler ensures the neighborhood know when im home and makes it more entertaining to drive than the 1.5L engine sitting at my feet. It also proves to be a comfortable bed t parties out of town.
Id recommend an excel to the elderly as they already seemed to have caught on and first buyers.Jul 28, 2008

This car is a good first car, they are quite cute. I see Excels as more of a chicks car. The only thing about them is they are a lil slow lol. They are good on fuel & oil. Because they are small sound pumps through the car and sounds good. Enjoy!
(My car is a 95' Excel but they didn't have that yr choice)Jul 20, 2008

Thsi si the X2 Pony...this wasnt an option under HYUNDAI when i picked the car from the list...It got me from A-B, rushed into this car as i was looking for a 5 door car ASAP. I ran on only 3 pistons...but did it well! Its not the best looking car...Hyundai nicked the bodywork from a Mk 5 Escort. Basic interior, not particularly fast, but hey i loved him anyway!Jan 19, 2008

Good car, looks tiny on the outside but really roomy on the inside. Trim is ghastly but these cars were almost made for after maket hotting up. Good motor in it but also has it's weaknesses, such as being made almast back to front and upside down, thanks to the koreans.Jan 06, 2008
