Its kind of funny, imho, I felt that the 94 Excel was when they finally got it right. Everything before 94 was, well, garbage. The 94 was awesome even though the line got replaced by the Accent which I didnt like at all. But yeah, only failed me because I failed it - the day before I was supposed to take it in, threw a rod, and that was that - my fault for waiting too long. It was a comfortable ride, was a bit zippy and could chew through tires, lol. Admittedly, I preferred the 2001 Chevy Blazer LT that I got after the engine tanked - but damn, there is no love lost for the 94 Excel and all the travels taken in this awesome economical vehicle.Dec 21, 2023

I bought this car off of my mothers family for 8 bills (800 bucks). it was in somewhat rough condition but it ran. I should have turned away because it needed alot more work than i thought. It was a low mileage car (50k) but i was not expecting to have to redo my entire brake system ($350) and then have my timing belt replaced the following week due to it snapping( another $350). This was all after i put 150 on tires because it had 2 bald tires in the front. Luckily the family decided to help me with the repair costs and pay 500 bucks. The radio has issues with the wiring and needs to be completely redone ( not wanting to put 200 into this). But after i got all these things fixed she runs pretty good. I did a full tune up and ran a can of seafoam to dissolve any carbon deposit and did an oil change. The head gasket and motor block are in bad shape and i will need a new car in about a year or 2. (gasket leaks into cylinder chamber and i cannot change or repair it because the idiot that owned it prior to my moms family beat the hell out of it and the motor block cracked. Right now it runs fine but i have to put coolant in every 3-4 days. It does not overheat but has a leak so that it blows a small amount of white smoke on startup. Overall if I had a chance to buy something else i would have, Its not a bad car but I know now to really look for the little things when buying any used car, Don't drive it for 30 minutes say it runs and buy it. It gets me form point a-b around town but I say stay away from older hyundai cars. Most of them in 1986-1994 were abysmal and the 1995-2000 were very slightly improved.but still suckedJun 29, 2013

The car is really dependable, it will get you were you need to go but it's not a fun car to drive since it has virtually no power whatsoever. At least it's cheap on gas but the lack of air bags is a downer. Jun 21, 2011
