This generation of Ford SHO interests me. I like how its equipped. The Yamaha engine makes it stand apart. It may well be more costly though than its worth some 25 years later? DIY a big plus. Feb 18, 2021

Pretty good car until you change the spark plugs, then everything goes awry. Lol but all in all she's been a good car. Had good gas mileage for a 3.8, good power, comfy seats, big trunk. tinted the windows and ripped the cats and muffler off so she's pretty pimp ;)Oct 19, 2011

The one I had must have had leprosy because there was ALWAYS something breaking. It wasn't very fast, it didn't get great gas mileage, and it wasn't like it was a good looking car. It was in good condition, but the car itself is just butt-ugly.Jun 21, 2011

Performance- It accelerated relatively slow with the automatic but after 4k RPM it really comes to life. Handling is very sharp for a 4 door car, brakes were good but not great. Build Quality- The taurus platform was built like crap, the interior was comfy but needed better looks. The rear window motors needed rebuilt (because nobody uses them) the sunroof motor needed replaced. They rust like CRAZY!!! but... the engine makes up for its downfalls. Appearance- Its a good looking car that doesn't look fast. it makes a good sleeper for anyone that doesn't know what a SHO is. Cost of ownership- The car didn't cost me much, gaskets for it are somewhat expensive. I put in a new timing belt, crank sensor, rebuilt power steering pump, DIS module, and CCRM module. What a good idea it was to put a Yamaha SHO motor in a Taurus. It really woke up the car to what it should be. Different headlights, bumpers, side skirts, the regular Taurus really looks bad. Yes cost of ownership is a bit high, and motor parts are expensive and sometimes rare to find, but it is a blast to drive, especially when the secondaries kick in!Nov 03, 2010

It has really good acceleration and speed. It is also somewhat of an older luxurious car. The gas mileage is about 25 highway. There are not a lot of them around here anymore. Some people might mistake it for a regular ford taurus around 1994. Really stylish!Jun 29, 2010

I have found this car to be more of a sporty car than a grocery getter. Performance wise, i modded it to have 150-160 horsepower, over the 140 it has stock. as far as build quality, the onlt things i have had to replace the starter, water pump and belt thus far. NO major repairs cropping up. apperance, no body kits are made for it, although the SHO is really the only Sporty taurus available factory. more can be found out at www.taurusowners.com.Jun 27, 2010

Well mine has a manual transmission, pretty fast with a 6.6 0-60. has 4 wheel disk brakes. thas digital climate control, all leather interior. The YAMAHA engines are the best. bullet proof. gets about 24 MPG Highway. about 20 in the city. they do break down on occasion, and parts are a bit pricy. I love the look of the gen. 2. Mar 13, 2010

Its body is strong overall. Nothing like cars these days. Slow acceleration. Good during slippery road conditions. I own this car. Ok apperance. Roomy inside. I have fun driving this car especially driving in the country side. Low on insurance. About $40 to fill up the tank. Good on maintenance.Nov 21, 2009

I love the interrior of this car, I just wish the mechanics of the car were better. It gets the acclaimed award of overall WORST transmission. It is fast for a 3.0L V6 once it shifts right. It has mucho interrior space and seating. VERY comfortable. The stereo got replaced but the stock speakers arn't too bad. So far my car will be on its THIRD TRANSMISSION, i replace the tires (still need alignment), needs engine service soon 131,100 miles however i change the oil every 2500mi, AND these cars have cooling and electrical problems too. awsome car very comfortable and loaded to the max: Leather, climate control, JBL audio, 3.2L 24 valve Yamaha V6 with 220HP, sunroof, keyless entry, fast effecient, sleek and fun to drive, you wouldn't know its a 4 door car, this car is not a Taurus but is related to a Taurus the only thing it really shares is the frame and some body parts, this car is very solid in cornering and doesn't let you know its front wheel drive, power is smooth and always there, these cars are on there way out so don't miss the fun, they are rare so if you see one jump on it before its gone Aug 27, 2009

Quick car for a Taurus, a tad slow for an SHO. WAY TOO MUCH MONEY IN PARTS. ITS ALSO NOT A STICK!!! It handles well and is a nice sleeper car that also serves its purpose in being a mid size sedan. Has nice extras like JBL system with amps, sun roof, lumbar and wing supported seat, leather interior and climate control all stock. I loved my Taurus gl and it is a little nice to be able to put the pedal down and have the extra power.Jul 08, 2009

Was good for a family, but not a big fan. I would have gotten the wagon, but it really looked worse. I needed something with some towing power and this 4 liter engine seemed to be the best bet for economy and power. Unfortunately the tranny didn't handle this mix well. I tried to get rid of it, but I couldn't find a buyer. I'm donating it to charity.Jun 11, 2009

As far as performance, it has very little. It is only a 3.0L V6 engine with not a lot of get up and go. It is a rally good car. I has close to 200,000 miles and the only major work that I had to do to it was rebuild the transmission. Any other work I have done on it was regular maintenance. The gas millage lacks a little to be desired. It is a family sedan, so does not score high on the fun factor. May 22, 2009

It's a quick car. Brakes are good. Handles good. It needed a new upper radiator hose. It burns off coolant so I have to refil the reserve tankl like every 3 weeks. Charging system isn't the best. Exterior is nice but has some faded paint and a ding in it. I like the dual exhaust and the spoiler. Interior isn't that great, very worn. Power everything and sound system is nice. Gas mileage (city) is horrible, but got very good mileage on I95. It's a fun first car and proud to own one because you don't see many SHO's around.Feb 04, 2009

Performance is good for it being 15 years old. Minor problems. (Charging system, burns off coolant.) Not bad appearance. (Ding in the left fender, faded paint.) Gas Guzzler. (Probably gets 15 mpg if I'm lucky.) It's a fun car, power everything and a quick 220hp.Feb 02, 2009

Car is ugly and can be annoying because of the fact that it is a junker but I still can put some speed into it and you would be surprised. Can't drive out of the city for fear of overheating and what not, but the car has good gas mileage for occasional trips to school and out and about.Oct 04, 2008

Well I've been driving around my little beauty for about 2 years now, and it drives great but as we all know '93/'94 (and even years younger or older) have the WORST reputation for tranny's...well mine was just replaced by my father dearest about March 2007. Still drives great, good mileage city fabulous highway! Great little boat on wheels. Well in my opinion that car is as big of a boat like Titanic! :] What I really REALLY hate about my car is #1) No A/C #2) Crap leather interior!! Otherwise...Fabulous. Needs a new paint job though. Last time I checked (which was 30 minutes ago) there was just over 204,786 miles...and it's still going strong!Sep 08, 2008

this car cost me 300 bucks. i bought it with 191k miles and it crapped out on me around 193.5k. this car did its job which was to get me around for a few months as cheep as possible so i could save up some money for a new sweet ride. i wouldnt recomend getting it, but it did last almost 200k miles so i guess if you were to find one with lower mileage it wouldnt be a bad deal.Aug 21, 2008

Fastest, most fun car I've owned to date. With just under 300 hp it's one of the fastest SHO's in the US. Problem is it had a stage three 30k clutch with 37k on it. Sucks that it blew and waiting on the new one but you'll all hear it before you see it when it's up and running.Aug 07, 2008

Has 168k, but lots of repairs- new tranny, radiator, muffler twice, front suspension, water pump, brakes, plus many minor issues. But it's size is great, has decent performance, and looks good yet even after several winters of ice, snow, salt, etc.Apr 24, 2008

Ford took an otherwise boring run of the mill Taurus and decided to drop in the 3.0L Yamaha built V6 that they had contracted Yamaha to built. They mated it to a Mazda built 5 speed transaxle (more 93-95 cars however had a Ford automatic) which provided positive, solid shifts, although not nearly as smooth as a Honda or BMW. A huge amount of work was done to the suspension tuning, making it stiffer, adding bigger anti-roll bars, and doing everything possible to dial back torque steer. Along with the minor exterior changes, front facia, rear bumper, small trunk mounted spoiler, alittle body clading and 16" wheels (up from the base Taurus's 15's) the interior was upgraded with leather seating and sunroofs on some cars, a standard auto climate control, and an optional JBL audio system. The car tracks straight on the highway, and can hold its own on back roads, as long as maintenance is is kept up on the suspension. Steering feel is good and torque steer is very controllable, only showing itself in first gear on bumpy or wet roads. For most of the earlier SHO's brakes were a weak point. They were just alittle unndersized, never lacking in stopping power, but if subjected to alot of highspeed braking, or track use were easily warped after a few 5 or 10 thousand miles. The 220hp Yamaha however is a unique engine that makes you crave flooring it to listen and feel the secondary intake runners open above 4k rpm. Its raw power delivery is unlike any family sedan of today and you'll surprise many people when they look under the hood. This was one of Ford's best cars of the early 90's, when they were thriving and not afraid to try something alittle different.Mar 27, 2008

I bought this car last year , from a little old lady . It had come into the shop with a common problem , the cylinder head gasket was "blown" and coolant had flooded #4 cylinder . Instead of her fixing the engine , she decided to get a newer car and gave me the option of buying it.......so I did . After tearing the motor down and checking everything , I sent the cylinder heads out for checking for cracks and re-finishing the surface of the heads . All went well and after much delay , I finally finished putting the car back together and made sure it was safe for the road. I have been quite impressed with it's handling and performance .( this being the first front wheel drive vehicle I have owned ) It has the 3.8l engine , with automatic transmission. May 16, 2007
