I love this car! I hate the gas mileage but, other than that it runs beautifully. It is powerful and comfortable. It is reliable and I love driving it. I am working on learning how to work on-fix this car so I can keep it as long as possible.Jun 09, 2011

"Why the heck did you sell your Mercedes for a Toyota," many people asked as I was now driving a Lexus LS400. However, it was the best automotive decision I ever made. Performance: This is considered a full-size sedan, yet they all come with a 250hp engine. For its size, I am very impressed with its acceleration, whether it be from 0, or when passing on the highway. Heck, there is even a button that says "PWR," which is a "power enhancer." What it really does is hold out the transmission shifts for more spirited driving. Braking is good, but it goes through brake pads quickly as it is a heavy car. Handling is in between a full size Cadillac and BMW; it is not nearly as boat-like as a Cadillac, but it is definitely not as nimble or sporty as a BMW. Build Quality - This is probably the best part about the vehicle. It is such a phenomenally reliable vehicle! As long as you stay on top of maintenance, expect 500,000 miles. The fit and finish is superb, too. Everything feels solid and there are no odd sounds when traveling, even north of 100mph. Appearance - It is definitely not really a "head-turner," but those who do a double take know the awesome qualities of the LS. "Handsome sedan" is probably the most accurate description for the car. Cost of Ownership - A super nice 90's LS400 can be had for well under 10k. Be sure to get one that has had its timing belt and water pump replaced as those are notorious for being problematic for the LS. But that's it! Other than that, making sure it has regular oil changes and not driving it like a Mustang will make it last a long time. I will say gas mileage is all over the place - I have gotten as much as 26mpg on the highway, and as low as 10mpg in the city. It just depends on how you drive it. Overall, to me, it's the complete package . V8 fun - Classy when needed - Hugely reliable - Cheap to purchase and holds value. Dec 05, 2008
