Performance- could use more powerful engine but current is fine also.
Build quality- Built well, smaller repairs are common.
Appearance- looks of people are guaranteed.
CoO- it could be cheaper.
Fun Factor- happy face is a must have with this car.

amazing car to people who loves power but be ware it drinks alot gasoline
when you but the gear on the sport mod you must open your eyes and take care
of your ride

Decent car, a little too heavy for the 1.8ltr engine it had! But overall not a bad ride
, alot of fun tho! I never saw another one because it was an imported from

great great car! Excellent performance, a beauty
inside and outside at its age, gives 23 mpg
highway, low cost maintenance If regular servicing
is done as required;It is really fun to drive

Liked the sound of the engine, the cruise controle and the automatic gearbox. I
disliked the reliability of the engine, the reliability of the gearbox, the failing aircon
and high prices of parts. Fuel economy isn't influenced by the driver and how much

I expect to get at least 100,000 more miles on the car. Last 525 topped out over 200k. Car runs perfect, has a timing chain, not a belt, which was the earlier downfall. Of course need to fix other wear related things.Mar 29, 2010

Its a classy well equipped BMW. Features many luxury's not found in a lot of cars today. Very comfortable ride that can be switched with the flip of a switch to sport mode, not the most powerful car in the world but BMW had class, luxary, and comfort in mind when they designed it and of course it handles awesome because after all, it is a BMW - The ultimate driving machine. BMW 525 I Touring. Not much to say about it really, pretty dull, expensive, good brakes, bad interior. Very, very big though.Makes for a good load lugger which is the only reason I bought it. Very reliable and runs very well.Oct 26, 2009

Bought my 518i saloon 2nd hand in 1996 (4 yrs old). I needed a big roomy car. Very good condition but with 70k miles on it (it was previously owned by a journalist). Very heavy car for only an 1800cc engine, but a real pleasure to drive. Acceleration and performance ok for me even if not great for boy racers. Solid and comportable car, 4 door saloon with plenty of space everywhere. It looked good, and had excellent lighting in and out. Sensible internal styling and dash. No flimsy switches or controls on it. A bit expensive though, for servicing and parts. I got 27mpg from it (not too bad). I loved it. And I still miss it today. Final note: I would now go for a big hatchback BMW, simply because I missed the rear-wash-wipe (not available on a saloon model). I would certainly choose a BMW again. Sep 27, 2009

Actually only own a third of it, its for a banger rally through europe.
1500 Miles plus, in four days, through about six countries or so.
Has had plenty of work done to it, mechanically ready, just awaiting paint and decals.

being an oldish car.. it's needed work.. once work was carried out, something else went boom.. gear box and suspention still needs work.
I love driving it, it looks great when it's clean. She accelerates pretty quick for a big car with only a 2.5 ltr engine. being a bimmer, she's pretty solid - no random rattles and the engine doesn't soundj like a one man band. At around 11 leters per 100 kms, she's not bad on fuel. but I have spent the purchase price again on repairs... so she can be pricey at times. If a bimmer is what you're after - do the right thing and get a manual oneJun 21, 2009

Það kostar nú ekki mikið að viðhalda og eiga þetta, eyðir um 10 - 12 lítra að meðaltali sem er auðvitað ekki neitt.

my BMW 525i has a merc engine, a V6, and 3.0 at least... i
guess it should be 530 :P
it is speedy, but not that much fun to drive... because it is
very steady that you dont feel like you are driving fast.. it
has a very good build quality. however, when problems
appear, they come by the dozen. It looks great, like it tells
you (I am strong and fast) with a dark blue colour, the
interior is great but needs some repairs.... there is
something i am not sure of... this car have a CD changer
that looks like an original one,,, but is it possible that a
1992 car has a CD changer?? dunno, maybe!
milage is pretty poor, its 80 litre tank (20 gallons) is
enough for a week at most, and it is used for about 35
kilometres (twenty-something miles) a day.. i find it is a
very thirsty car.. however it is worth it..
fun factor: of cource it is fun to drive a car that
accelerates like this, but u miss the feel of the road (like
bumps and not being steady) that u get at higher speeds.Dec 06, 2008

I got this in february car as a temporary run about, not expecting much from it but it has exceeded all of my expectations. The ride, handling, steering, brakes and gearbox are all superb, only a tiny bit of clutch judder under light loads being the only noticeable (very minor) fault. The engine is very smooth and quiet and runs like clockwork...impressive considering its done 180000 miles!!! It goes well to, though needs 4000rpm to really shift and is not that quick off the mark at low revs, but makes a nice noise and 30mpg is a realistic figure in normal driving. The seat bases were worn, but otherwise the interior still feels solid and is very quiet. There is some rust to the wheel arches (BMW weak spot) but not much else, so better than most other 16 year old cars! Insurance is reasonable even at my age (21) and it has not needed anything fixing since I've had it. Great car!Sep 23, 2008

BMWs are good cars, but can be expensive to upkeep. Interior is falling apart and things screech and creak. It would be better if I had it in manual. The car battery is located under the rear seat, which can make changing the battery or giving someone a jump an annoyance. Another negative is that the glove box is falling out.... or does when it is opened. The handling is good and the engine can pick up when it wants to. The BMW brand is a very good and trustable one. bmw 525i se, on 17 inch alpinas, bilsein suspension, a lot of power & a lot of comfort, i just cant help prefering the rear wheel drive cars, thease cars go on forever, its amazing how bmws always outlast the seats, iv seen em still going strong after 350 thou being on the clock, u gotta go for yhe se model with all the extras, you gotta lower em just an inch to get that better grip, avoid early 520,s and 518,s just a waste of time judging from expereince, the e34 520 was changed to a 24valve in the early 90,s where they were vastly improved, 535i's & 540Is are the ones to look out for, alpinas and m5's if you really into em, cus there a hell of a toy, id drive anywhere in my 525i always in such comfort, with no one stuck behind me, highley recommendedJul 28, 2008

The handling on the car is spot-on. Great feedback is given so you know what the car is doing and how far it is willing to go. The interior is spacious and holds up well over the years if taken care of well. May 30, 2008

this car will always make you smile with it's 200bhp 2.5 litre 24v twin cam straight six power plant under your right foot and knowing if you press it hard down you will be hurdled from 0-60mph in little over 7 sec and will continue to take you over 140mph,and yet driving this car leaves you feeling happy driving along at 30mph,enjoying the plesent drive and refined engine sound and beautiful surrounding dash with more extras than a back street massage parlour safe in the knowledge that the idiot in the vectra sri trying to race you will be bearly visable in the rear view mirror if you could be bothered to try,or if you could afford to, £40 of petrol will take your fuel needle little over the quater mark and if you take it easy you might just get 27mpg, but if your heavy footed then expect more along the lines of 7mpgMar 23, 2008

Bought the car with 156000 km on the clock, sold it at 240000 km. Had the car for 3 years. Drove it down to Slovenia when I worked there, 10 hours straight from Kiel to Ljubljana. Maxed out at 230 km/hour on the autobahn.

My Beemer ROCKS! It is still classy, and definitely reliable for a 15 year old car. There are a few problems...electric windows have needed a little plastic thing replaced, and my fan motor for the heater/ac doesn't work anymore.
