Overall a pretty solid car. Cheap to maintain and easy to work on. Looks good. Drives good. Not the best family vehicle but it wasnt ment to be. Not many left in such nice condition. Good car to cruise and have fun in.Aug 14, 2014

Love it. 350 small block, 5.7L of pure power TBI original 1989 show room floor model. Haven't had any problems but with only one other owner and 66,000 original miles...one can't complain. American Muscle at its finest!!! Is one of the fastest cars over driven. Smokes out Mustangs and a few Cameros. Maintenance is easy and there's plenty of room in the engine for just about any modifications you want to add.May 31, 2014

I love the car, it's been pretty reliable. Probably the most reliable car I've bought. There's tons of parts out there for them to make them plenty powerful. I've always enjoyed driving it, especially since I changed up the suspension. My only problems I would say with it is exhaust routing and bigger brakes would be good.Oct 22, 2011

This is a 6 cylinder tank. Gets great gas mileage as well as very fun to drive. Maintenance costs are low. I bought it for my son in high-school and kept it for myself when he graduated college and went into the Air Force.Aug 17, 2011

What's not to like? It's loaded with gray leather, looks like a corvette in front, has 45k original miles, and is a beautiful deep red with gold honeycomb rims. The L98 corvette motor has been mildly built to approximately 300 horses. Apr 15, 2011

This is my 1989 Pontiac Firebird. I saved this car from the crusher after it had been hit while parked on a used car lot. It has been an experience rebuilding this car and i have loved this car since i was 12. This car was found in a junk yard in my home town. We bought it for $700 and proceeded to rebuild it. Two years later when I turned 16 she was done. Motor was a stout little 2.8 litre v6 with multi-port fuel injection. It had an automatic transmission. The interior was in great shape and the exterior looked great after repairing the damage to the right rear that the car had sustained prior to it being junked. I put this car through its paces. Never wrecked it. Loved owning it. Never had a lot of problems. Fun car to bomb around in. Gas mileage was so-so because the car was under powered. About 16mpg in town on average. On the highway she ran great and loved to just cruise. Also a great car in the snow and ice. Never got it stuck. Dec 20, 2010

Good over all performance, sturdy build, i like the way it looks but mine is pretty rough due to sitting for 7 years, ownership cost is pretty low spend 1000 on it and its costing little to keep it up, gas mileage is pretty good for a v8. It's a love hate relationship. It's an 89 Firebird what more can i say. It has t-tops so it drives like a wet noodle and everything rattles even with the subframe connectors. It's not the fastest thing around but it isn't the slowest either. It beats you up to drive it, it stinks, and it's loud. I wouldn't trade it for anything.Dec 01, 2009

Acceleration is pretty impressive now that I've tweaked my transmission. The brakes need some work. I think one of the lines gets pinched every once in a while. The only thing that broke in my 5 years of ownership was the starter. It is extremely aerodynamic and for being an 89 the styling makes it look like an older muscle car in my opinion. It only cost me 1,600 bucks when I bought it and it gets like 21mpg. It's one of the funnest cars I've ever driven.Nov 26, 2009

Bought this car three years ago from my cousin and have loved her ever since. The 305 V8 is an excellent motor for this vehicle. Even with 160,000 miles, I still got 23 miles to the gallon on the highway and have pushed it to 115 mph before. The steering and suspension is excellent as long as everything is connected. It had been in an accident before I purchased it, and even with a 2 foot hole in the side, it still drove excellent. Had to replace the rear end due to some donut fun (chipped the spider gears), but still drove, only had one time when it failed me and that is when the cat got plugged up. I think that the unibody choice for this car provides more difficult and more expensive cosmetic repairs due to cutting, bending, and welding the metal, but what ya gonna do. All in all, I love this car and would never give her up.Jul 05, 2009

Love this car. Great performance from the 305 V8 engine with 225lbs of torque, TBI electronic fuel injection, fast-burn combustion chambers and high-energy ignition. Solid build, few problems. I like the aerodynamic looks of this car. The third generation Firebird was ahead of its time with a 0.299 (Cd) Coefficient of drag. This is a fun to drive car: t-top and after 20 years it still turns heads. It has a 4 speed automatic transmission. uhm...i'm just gonna say, it needs work. but i love my car otherwise. :) wierd how the sunroof is powered but the door windows aren't. there are alot of squeaks and rattles, my CAT converter just went, uhmmmmmm when my belt broke it bent my pulley system, its sometimes difficult to turn the steering wheel. but thats what you get when you have used parts from the junk yard ;)Mar 31, 2009

I bought my firebird from a friend from high school, and it was a daily driver for one summer. The car is very quick, and the clutch is easy to operate. I've had it up to 107mph before the front end started shaking, so it needs a little suspension and alignment work. However, it's very fun, especially since you can remove the t-tops in the warmer weather. It's in storage now, but when it's on the road it turns heads. Nov 19, 2008

The third generation Pontiac Firebird is best remembered for it's role as KITT in the 80s TV show that made David Hasselhoff a household name, Knight Rider. Dispite it's huge F-Body frame and relatively modest performance figures this is a real drivers car. It's looks are just awesome so who cares about power ? Remove the t-top roof and soak up the sun while cruise control let's you beleive KITT has taken over. A great summer car for little money but plenty of pose factor.Aug 29, 2008

I am writing this review for my 2.8 Liter automatic 1989 Firebird. Driving this vehicle has given me some very mixed feelings. First off the performance of the 2.8 Liter is a joke, the car is horrible underpowered with its tiny 6 cylinder engine. The transmission and the engine work well together but the car is starved for power especially when compared to its v8 counterpart. The ride is rough since the car is so low to the ground, it almost has a truck like feel to it. The truck like feel does not apply to handling though, since this car has such a low and wide stance it takes corners with no hesitation which can be a blast on the right roads. The comfort as far as the interior goes is ok if your in front and hellish if you are ever unfortunate enough to have to sit in the rear of one of these cars. Exterior-wise this car is a classic I mean how can you see a Firebird and not have 80's flashbacks? All in all I would recommend the V8 bird and live with the gas prices, it would be a much funner car and more worth my time.May 01, 2008

O to 60 in 5. She's fast, she's sweet, and with racing tires, she can handle curves like nobody's business. The Firebird Formula has a reinforced body and frame, to handle the torque generated by a V8 Engine in such a small body. In the standard Firebird, this engine would twist the front end, and pop out the windshield. So yes, she's tuff stuff.Apr 01, 2008
