1988 Porsche 928 Reviews, Pricing & Specs

I’ve owned two 928s an ‘85S and an ‘88 S4, and they are solid reliable fun cars to drive. Heavier than a 911 or 944 or Boxster so not the ideal car for track days or auto cross. But for smooth long distance travel at a good clip and you have a few bags to take for a weekend you can’t beat it. If you don’t mind the fuel costs you can daily drive it too. Maintenance isn’t bad and if you’re handy you can do many things yourself. But finding a competent mechanic that knows the car and it’s complex electrical system can be a challenge. What the 928s lack in outright power they more than make up for in handling and style. I’m looking to buy a third one to add to my Cayenne Turbo and 996 Turbo. bought this car back in 1999 or 2000 as a fun car. it had 75,000 miles on it. it now has 130,000 plus. still goes like a bat outta hell turns heads and nearly cause some peple self inflected whiplash. doen't burn oil doesn't leak anywhere. brakes are incrdible. and for very sprited highway driving and funn it doesn't get much better. down side cost of ownership and limited knowledge base for repairs locally. I Own a 88 - 928 and what I can say is this is an excellent example of a quality built, finely tuned sports car. After owning a 350hp corvette and various other performance cars the Porche by far out does them all in its class. The handling is precise and clean without scary surprises, throttle response is awesome as long as its tuned properly. Some advice that might be helpful if you own or thinking of buying, keep the leather interior clean and treated, engine and compartment clean and always keep it tuned to its peek or you can run into troubles. What I mean is if something is out mechanically like a sensor or even a plug it can leed to more serious issues so keep her tuned and clean then you won't have any problems and don't be scared by the price of repairs!! Find yourself a good mechanic that knows the 928 as its a beast all on its own then stick with him as opposed to a hacker who can do more damage than good to your baby. Its not cheep but then if you drive a car like this you should know better. Dec 03, 2009
