Car always starts up first thing in the morning with little trouble, Acceleration is decent although you don't expect much from such a small engine. Handling is incredible and has no problems going around even the tightest turns at relatively high speeds. It is surprisingly rust free for a car from the 1980s and still has the original engine, although I did replace the transmission. It gets probably about 28 mpg and all I really have to do maintenance wise is change the oil regularly. It is a very fun car to drive and I often get thumbs up from people who see me driving.Sep 13, 2011

low speed but gives it good power, corners good but strut bearings go easy, brakes last forever....reverse gear rattles abit because it was used when we changed it over to a standard. floors last good in them and lots of space inside.Oct 23, 2009

I like my 1.8 5 speed, with a nuespeed racing adjustable cam
shaft & sprocket and a set of headers, with a ported and
polished machine matched and balanced head and short
block it brings it to 175 horsepower , this cars like a little go
cart.May 31, 2009

* Performance – acceleration not bad, braking, handling - needed new rear shocks
* Build Quality – has it needed repairs? squeaks/rattles - many parts were broken down due to misscare
* Appearance – both interior and exterior styling - great
* Cost of Ownership – gas mileage - not shabby , maintenance - lots, always buy a running car
* Fun Factor – is this car fun to drive? - 8/10

Performance-
acceleration, excellent now that there is more power
braking, needs some help in this department
handling, lowering is a must
build quality- have fixed all at minor cost from j/y
appearance- going for minimal interior, needs some body work
cost of ownership- make sure you meet all recommended filter/oil changes + preventive maintenance and you will be fine
fun factor- i love to drive my coupeJan 03, 2009

Small car, lightweight, and it is very reliable. We're talking 250,000 miles on one engine reliability. Heck, VW even has a 500,000 mile club for those make it that far...pretty awesome.Apr 09, 2008

This car was built very well. As long as you can keep up with maintenance, it will last you for a very long time. I had 375k when my car left me on the side of the road. It was the clutch cable, and I didn't know... ($8 part) comfortable, reliable. Only car that could take whatever I could give it...Mar 17, 2008

Sweet torque, Its a non-turbo diesel, loud , gutless 120km/h top speed more horsepower than a ride on lawn mower, more torque than the average cavalier, makes for fun sliding in parking lots across alberta in winter. had skid plates, tough car, 475000 km, not burning oil 300 km a tank. 30$ fill, buying back from friend. rebuilding engine, painting it. either ford 302 or cummins b4, Feb 25, 2008

This was the best car I have ever had! The handling was tight, it had great acceleration, and a good turn radius. I hated to get rid of this car! When I traded it in, it was going strong with almost 200,000 miles on it! This was a very solid car in every way. Jan 06, 2008

Of course it's not the most luxurious car in the world, but it has a great engine (in its level) and the combination between engine and weight is just what you want for a well balanced HP/Torque car.
