I personally love the design of the vehicle, it still has a commanding presence today.
One could go on long trips and feel as fresh as when you left home, as well as having the peace of mind that goes with Mercedes Benz safety and handling.
Even at it's age there are no rattles or squeaks and visibility is excellent!
As far as maintenance goes, I always liked to do my own work and this vehicle has cost very little as far as spares go. The rear disk pads were only changed after 250,000 Km.
Although it is quite heavy, the size of engine is more than enough to power the car with ease
As far as braking is concerned, it is eyeball popping under heavy stopping. (excuse the rhyme)

Mine is a 2000 CC's not 2800, so it is a Blue 1985 MB 200 with 1987 E-Class Rims and amazing Beige Leather Interior. It is Extremly fun to drive, but it has a loud sound because it has a Carburetor Engine not Injection.Oct 19, 2011

This is actually a 230E, but as there is not an option to select this model, I have listed it as a 280. Has a reconditioned motor, brakes and fuel system. It is the four cylinder 2.3 fuel injected which really gets up if you floor it. It has a little body roll around fast corners but is so comfortable that I don't even slow down for speed bumps! It is very good on fuel, as I get about 700klms to a tank on the highway and the presence on the road turns most peoples head. It now has 19" black and polished wheels to further enhance the already great looks. I recommend this model to anyone as it the most comfortable car I have ever owned!Jun 27, 2009

This was my first car... for some reason.
Even though it says MB 280 it was actually a 200, but again this application doesn't provide all the model options.
Performancewise it was horrible, no handling, stopping this monster at higher speeds without entering a spinout is a skill one has to master, and acceleration... well with 109hp, 4 speed gearbox and over 2 tons of metal... need a say more? On a downhill slope it will accelerate very fast on it's own just from gravity alone. On an uphill slope prepare to gearshift down and floor it to maintain the speed you had. Also during winter subzero conditions if you left it outside the fuellines froze often and the back went into a dance on icy roads very easily. Talking about fuel... in city traffic... probably around up to 2 litres of fuel per 10km...
Very comfortable and quiet though and although not my favorite the huge trucksized steeringwheel is charming.
Looks... well it has a certain charm to it but yeah it's ugly!
Now the only really positive thing about this car is it's buildquality. Damw this from 1985 and during the 2 years I had passed the yearly checkup with flying colors both years and I had papers that it passed the 3 previous years aswell. My dads car from 1997 first failed the second year and then failed on something basically every year after that.
This car is slow, ugly and dangerous on winterroads but it's a tank which will crush anyting in it's path and always start and run well when you turn the ignition (except if you left it out in subzero temperatures for too long, then you need to taw the fuellines :P). Go to any middleeastern country and you'll see that still today they will use this car as taxis because they never break.May 14, 2008

220.000 miles and drives like a tank. It´s top speed is only 105mph, which it achieves fairly easily, and is good considering its only a 4-speed. However even at 105mph it felt as solid as when I drive it at 40mph. Perfect. Very comfortable front and rear seats. Very little rust and none that can´t be repaired easily. Being a diesel, I also gain the aproval of the big truck guys. Feb 15, 2008
