The problems with this vehicle is the fact that the air-cooled engine doesn't have self-adjusting valves, requiring regular services or the van won't run. I think it had a 5,000km range on the valve-adjustment. If you cannot adjust it yourself, you will be sitting on the side of the road. Also, I was sold this Vanagan by a professional car salesman (theif) who fooled me into believing it was in good condition. The engine will run on 2 of 4 cylinders for awhile before laying to rest. The engine is the biggest flaw, the other mechanical components were excellent, as is, the design for 1981. Conclusion: Buy it for short trips around town, Sell it if you want a reliable vehicle.Nov 26, 2008
