Car was ruined by regulation. bumper height, emissions, etc. so there isn't an impressive amount of power by any standards, to be fair though it did remind me of my old mk2 GTi, which isn't a bad thing, only lower and more geek/badass.
Stainless body. Iit looks great from a distance, but up close my car was covered in a weatlh of subtle imperfections, that are hard to unsee. These can be fixed if you want to invest. Basically I would get one with all this work done, because it doesn't drastically improve the value.
The Doors really make the car. If I'm really honest, it's like a little spaceship, I never got bored of how much fun the doors are, you can get a system fitted which satisfyingly pops the doors open (like a spaceship).
A lot of these cars are sold as 'survivors' with low miles and all original. I would expect to sink a further 10k on upgrades and replacements, original exhaust is crap, you can upgrade it, and you should, but they are usually louder and it can get droney on the highway. Stock suspension is laughably high at the front to meet bumper regs, good idea to replace for other reasons too. Electronics, replace with modern loss flamable solutions. And this is without the engine upgrades to fix the power.
I really hope they get a good electric conversion going on, these would make a GREAT electric car.Mar 21, 2013

I want a Delorean would shoot for a turbo powered
beast and would want a manual transmission. I would
without a doubt eventually turn it into a time machine
complete with time circuits and a flux capacitor. and it
would have to leave flaming tire tracks and light up
and freak out when you hit 88mph (good way to scare
some people and attract police attention)Oct 26, 2009

After a 23 year wait, I finally got the car I wanted as a child. I was a BTTF kid, but took it much further than most. After handling a few very well known issues, the cars are dependable, reliable, and durable. A huge support network for parts and tech assistance is readily available. Well tuned models provide fuel economy as good as or better than its original predictions (which were 19mpg city/29mpg highway for a manual transmission)
It should be mentioned it is not a car for everyone. It strictly seats two. It has manual steering. It grabs attention, whether you want it or not. The drivetrain does not live up to the expectations of its appearance.
It is as close to being a celebrity as I wish to be. You may find yourself arriving late because you get approached at gas stations and in parking lots. You will answer "Where's the flux capacitor?" at least once every outing.Nov 01, 2008

The DeLorean is the most awesome piece of dog crap on the road or in a garage... or in a parts store, which is where mine ended up after being totalled in a head-on with a drunk driver. I would have loved driving that car if I had actually driven it more than I, say, pushed it or towed it.Jul 28, 2008

Its a Delorean; this almost explains itself. The quality is very good, for being somewhat experimental in design. The cost of ownership is suprisingly small for a somewhat exotic 27 year old car made by a semi-defunct company. The gas milage is soemwhat decent; on average low 20's; not abd for an old sports car. The fun factor....is as good as it gets...top notch looks, sheer shock value, great handling, 'decent' acceleration.Jun 28, 2008

Believe it or not, this is my car. My DeLorean, or as some people like to say, The Back to the Future car. Yes, it has Gullwing doors. I took an interest in cars because of my Dad. He has a couple oldies he has been working on. I bough this car 10 years ago. I go to car shows with it.
And please do not ask the following...
"Have you gone up to 88?" - Answer, YES!
"Where's the Flux Capacitor?" - Answer, it's getting repaired.
"Have you gone back in time? - Answer, Maybe.
"Are you selling it?" - Answer, NO!
"Will you marry me?" - Answer, NO!Apr 14, 2008
