The 1978 LeSabre Custom coupe is very fast, is a reliable everyday driver, rides smoothly, easy to work on unlike the new cramped engine compartments. Just keep it up as you would any car and it will take care of you.Sep 19, 2010

I inheirited this vehicle from my father when he passed away, taking over the payments after his death. However, this vehicle had major transmission problems and did not get great gas mileage. I wound up having to sell the vehicle for scrap metal.Jul 31, 2009

Car was reliable, but drank gas like a pig at times. Comfortable seats. Smooth ride. Not too slow for an old people car, it was capable of well over 110 MPH, although it took a while to get there. Paint was faded, rusty and cracked but in the car's defense it was nearly 20 years old at the time. It was fun to push this thing past its limits, howling tires on sharp turns, doughnuts in the snow, and even mudding. The car had over 320,000 miles when I sold it. It looked hidoeous and still ran great. And hey, they did have crumple zones in the 1970's, the crumple zone being the other car!Jan 05, 2009

This was my first car, purchased with the blessing of my father, but unknown to my mother. We bought this from an ad in the "Tradin' Times" and drove down to 85th & Wallace in Chicago on a Sunday night in the spring of 1996. It had a 301 V8 / Automatic and came with a terrible rod knock. The front floorboards were pretty rusty so I patched them with sheet metal & caulked the seams. I later touched up the peeling paint on the trunk & rear quarter panel, and found nice chrome headlight bezels & other trim. A trip to a local swap meet netted me a new carpet set, and I also put new shocks, hubcaps, and a radio in it. Then one summer day on the way to teaching band lessons at a local junior high school the old Buick literally caught on fire and burned to the ground. I made out unscathed, save for a few burns caused by a front passenger side tire that exploded while I was trying to shoot a fire extinguisher into the engine bay. The tow truck guys said it caught fire again *twice* on the way to the junkyard.Feb 22, 2008
