This '74 Gran Torino Elite was the strongest car I've owned. Unfortunately it probably cost me the most on repairs. The C6 tranny would fry out once a year, up until I installed a low stall torque converter. The higher stall torque converter would burn out the clutches. I painted the car myself, and wanted it stripped to the metal. But I made the mistake of taking off the factory primer. I had no idea it was so thick and didn't know how well it had protected the car... up until I took it off. Then, the car rotted. And it rotted from the inside out, it seemed, because all of a sudden there was huge holes that were too bad to fix. I also painted my other Elite, and left the factory primer on. That car is still good to this day, and I painted it 21yrs. ago with Tremclad.Oct 20, 2007
